There's some Chinese anime as well. Chinese anime are mostly...weird to put it lightly, but their best works like "cupid's chocolate" definitely beat a lot of Japanese anime.

Nevertheless, anime is something that Japan does best, and no other country is taking that title away from them any time soon.

Also yeah, that's a mistake a lot of people make at one point or the other. Anime and animation are very different. Anime could he considered as classed under animation, but most animation originated in the West.

I'm not quite sure why Asia (Japan in particularly) decided to name it differently, but it was a smart move to give their trademark a sense of individuality. Considering how popular anime, light novels, webcomics and manga have become in general; it's only fair a name is set apart for themselves.

Nevertheless, my favs are nanatsu no taizai and toaru series.
