It looks like he's healing from willpower so could just be a visual glitch. What nodes were active?

Ebb and flow intercept

When protection from ebb and flow intercept procs, all debuffs on the defender get purified. What happens at the start of the fight is CGR places armour break on the opponent at the start then fractions of a second later protection from ebb and flow triggers which then purifies the armour break.
