5* r5 Warlock, 5* r4 magik, 5* r4 HT, 5* r4 AA, and 5* r4 hype all had a chance to shine in 6.1 to carry me to cav around the beginning of December. 6th man goes to 5* r4 Corvus who carried me to uncollected a few months prior and changed my account completely. Shoutout to hulk rag for carrying me all the way up to and past act 4 until RNG decided to be on my side this year.
This is a tough one. Top ten would be easy: Doom, Void, Ghost, Ægon, Colossus, Fury, Sparkles, Havok, Sym, and Sunspot. Top champ? Since I 100% Abyss this year and used him a lot against the Grandmaster, I’d have to say.... Ægon
CapIW. I took him up to R2 unduped, hesitantly woke him up with a gem after abyss, and slowly got him to sig 200 over the year and now R3. What a beast! Never had the 5* so was nice to have the powerhouse available.
So many runners up though, it's been a crazy year for my account. Honorable mentions to Wolverine (cannot get over how much I like him as a horseman), Guardian, and CGR. But none of them make the top spot as I wasn't exactly hesitant!
Edit: wait, Phoenix R3 was also in 2020! Crazy, I feel like I've had her forever. She's the one. I love her, she's my AQ Queen.
Longshot,most of the people talk about it's less utility but I have mastered his timing so well that I used him against biohazard sentinel to win when other champs were failing.
So this is going to sound weird but my answer is probably ghost. I was super excited when I pulled a 5* version of her and I took her to rank 2 (because I’m always starved of tech catalysts and that’s the farthest I could take her.) I went into realm of legends and was at first disappointed. Well of course after I played her more, I love her and use her for so much but I expected too much straight out of the book.
For me,it's shulk,at first due to lack of skills,I was not so good at shulk,but now she counters so many things easily,and now I can keep up those furies
Quake for me. I had her awakened as a 5* at rank 2 for almost 2 years until this year I decided to take her up. Haven't looked back since. The decision was easy after I used her to pretty much solo the variant 4 Electro boss as a rank 2.
Red hulk initially thought I'll leave him at r3 but during my cav run t2a was overflowing so I invested into red hulk and r4 him Totally worth it Helped me solo xbones in 6.1.5 and if I see any poison inflicting Defence I just bring red hulk with me
Mine would be Hyperion. I know to doubt him was dumb. I didn't get his fury mechanic but was advised to make him my first 5* r5 from here and now I see how good he is. While I haven't made huge strides yet, he will allow me too.
Honorable mentions: CMM(had no doubt about, first good 5*) Ægon(allowed me to beat Collector many months ago, I still have doubts cause I suck at the game, especially when I play as him where I get nervous and screw up a lot, though I know he is incredible).

Used a 4-5 mystic gem on her and it changed my entire game
I got him some time soon when he was nerfed, and wasn't sure if I should have ranked him up or not. Definitely worth it!

Thought I could never perfectly use her at the start of the year but now I am a pro ghost player.
