This is really weird

I was playing with 4* Warlock in Monthly EQ Cav difficulty (i don't have a 5* Warlock), when i throw my sp2 after a medium, couple of hits whiffed rather then hitting Sabretooth. Is it a bug or is it intended that way?

For me, when using Warlock's sp2 mid-combo, he is thrown back an unnaturally large distance and the first few hits don't connect and the opponent has the opportunity to block and then I get ruined.

Yeah been happening to me for a while.

Most prominently seen if only doing your 1st Medium and then going to his SP2 right afterwards.

A combo ending with a 2nd Medium before the SP2 should work fine, also a full combo ending in Light as well.
