Bishop looks like he will definitely be more fun to play!

When it comes to champ buffs, what we see on paper doesn't always translate to effective reality. In this case however, I think Bishop's buff may end up being the best out of the bunch.

I mean... bring a tech and that basically shuts him down.
It's the fact that it has the node that reduces your block proficiency and gives extra power to him. So if he spams Sp1, you can't stay near him or you'll get incinerate debuffs. And you can't parry him since you take additional block damage. Can't cheese him anymore since the overload part has been redone. Obviously there will be methods, but he'll be harder for sure.
Great... The Doom cheese is gone. Seems the magik cheese still works perfectly tho. It's a great buff regardless.

Nope. Again, his new overload only damages you if he is bleeding, shocked, or incinerated while in overload.

I like some stuff but tbh I actually really liked that he gained power when parrying and taking energy damage, and that his regen was passive. You could parry-MM-parry skill champs or energy attacks to a SP2 with 25-30 prowess within seconds. Is nobody else at least a little upset that they took that away?

He gains prowess at a much faster rate now. A single parry grants 7 prowess charges, 9 against skill champions. Additionally, he gains 3 prowess every second while taking energy damage.

The regeneration now being a buff rather than passive is a legitimate difference, although I think o prefer this new system because it caps the regen buffs you can have at a time. So if you’re holding block for an extended period, you won’t inadvertently burn more than 5 prowess at a time.

But if he’s power locked, the prowess won’t matter because he can’t throw a special. The point is that Magik works perfectly well as a counter. However if he throws an sp1 before you get an sp2 off, you’ll have to dance around his steady release incinerates.

A bit worried about the Bishop on mix master path in map 7, ghost might be the only good option now? plus if it's cascading failure ghost will also have some trouble.

which is what is gonna have to happen in the aq mini boss. Otherwise bishop wouldnt be too bad.

The problem is mainly with the interaction in AQ. The combination of nodes make the buff pretty annoying. You have to play around the increased power gain and soft guard already, now the incinerates as well. Obviously there are counters, but it's just a pain to deal with.

Based on pure math looking at the numbers it seems this way. But not Mags vs bleed immune metals tho. That's damage over a Million with no probs for Mags. Bishop won't be that crazy.

However I'll do some basic math to show my point of how I think Bishop will be a MONSTER after this buff.

Ok so I went in ROL vs WS with my R1 6 star Bishop with him only on the team so no synergies, boost, etc nothing.
Did a SP2 with 30 Prowess which I'll use as a base.

The SP2 damage: 33'380

Nothing crazy for a R1. The kick crit and only 1 of the three beam ticks crit which if a decent average. Now lets add the buff change where he does an extra 70% damage from the incenerate.

Sp2 damage after buff: 56,746

Not bad and a decent increase for a base R1. Ok well how about we put him at max sig and start the fight with 2 bars (which is now easy with his new synergies). That's another 70% damage so from the pre buff damage we have to add 140% which is from his sig max and base sp2 after the buff.

Sp2 after buff with max sig: 80'112

For a R1 that's not bad even if it does consider max sig into the mix.

Ok so with all that done remember, I didnt really do anything but simple math. What about outside factors that weren't included?

Prof X wirh 4 charges to add 100% special damage, Apoc to add another 50%, boost, other synergies, act 7's free 700 attack, his sp3 debuff, being a R2, being a R3, over 30 prowess, etc etc.

Speaking of his sp3 debuff. This is one to keep your eye on also and here's why. 1274.04 may not seem like a big number till you see how its calculated in other places. For example Korg has a -537 energy resist which translates to -33.3% energy resist. Which in that case makes the 1274 seem like a bigger number yeah? I agree.

The point of all this is to say. I think Bishop is about to be known as one of those champs in game that "Does BIG yellow numbers" along with some of his mutant friends.

The buff looks pretty solid, only thing that I would have liked would be to keep his power generation while generating prowesses but I think he’ll still be a lot better now.

Magik not going to work in AQ vs him I think. He'll reach 10 prowess before Magik gets to L2. And then his Sp1 will be Unblockable.
I like the buff, but I feel that they should change the nodes on his mini in Map 6 AQ.

No, but I think it's because for me I've never used his regeneration. I was always more focused on just finishing the fights as quickly as possible by earning enough energy for a special two.

I have a question regarding his awakened ability since I don’t have any experience with a duped Bishop. If I were to start a fight with 2 bars of power, for example, would he get just the 2 bar bonus, or does he get that one plus the bonus for the other power bar tiers?

Not sure.. my guess is if you finish opponents with sp1 or sp2, next match the power level is carried over.. so one bar for sp1 and two power bar for sp2.. my guess is he will be good or better but not Magneto OG level.. maybe better than Gambit in damage.. how will he be as horseman of Apocalypse? Anyone try it yet?

He gets both bonuses, if he finishes with 2 bars of power and he gets all 3 bonuses if he finishes with 3 bars of power. At least that's how it worked until today.

That was actually a GREAT mechanism and people had underestimated it by a lot. Practically it means that you would enter a fight, just use parry without ever hitting the opponent, reach an SP2 and unleash it. An amazing power control mechanism. Probably after the buff, that would make him totally OP that's why they remove it.

I agree that those champs suck, however with how Bishop will work it's only beneficial for the first fight in theory, since after that you should be aiming to finish your fights with a special and start the next with the same amount of power as you ended with.

There is a good downside to the new way his specials work, it will interact badly with 150 and 200% boosts.
Normally power is drained and the damage done gives power back.
But with the new system Bishop works with counters that process.
If you still have 2 full bars of power, and do your damage. Only 1 new bar can fill. After all bars are full 2 get drained.
So from a massive sp2 you can only gain 1 bar of power from the boost.
For that same reason, on a special 3 you won`t be able to gain any power.

But Kabam might have thought of this and changed the power gain to happen after the drain.

YJ has a base of 4900 which is about 70% energy resistance which we can use as a base. Bishop will have just over 4000 so I'd guess his would be between 60-65% total. Not bad but I was hoping they would give him the highest in game with like a base of 8000 or something.

Seems high but diminishing returns would kick on. I suppose his synergies make up for it.
