First off, let me start by saying that I understand that my following suggestion may be glossed over immediately due to the stigma it places on this game. That being said, I am sure there could be a "fun" resolution to this stigma and I shall offer one at the bottom of this post.
I have played this game for many years, one constant is that (and I don't mean this in a bad way) invariably, MCOC has an issue. This could be from bad code, a new game engine update or maybe even a poorly thought out game mechanic. When this happens, much like the past couple of months, Kabam is nice enough to compensate the players.
Kabam compensation is a problem. There is no one size fits all due to the nature of this game. What may seem to be phenomenal compensation to a new player maybe just "meh" to your sweaty try hards, conversely, a great compensation for a Throne Breaker may be too much compensation for the average noob. Anecdotally, I myself find that although the extra Glory was nice, I often found myself leaving my compensation unopened due to either too much Glory (nearing the 15000 cap) or overflow of AQ revives and heals. I know I wasn't the only one and what was to be a great compensation is less so if I lose those items due to lack of room.
Here comes the solution. Create a permanent compensation store with a new currency strictly for that store. Furthermore, do not put restrictions on items, just make their cost commensurate with the other items. When it comes to compensation, players get this new currency based on two factors, 1) The severity of the in game issue and 2) The level of progression of the player.
With this model, you fix the following issues:
- Kabam trying to create and dispense compensation takes several man hours / days. At least according to your latest compensation package.
- Players have the ability to select what is important to them based on their progression as well as the content they enjoy
- Creates a new avenue for increased progression (More on that below)
Finally, to flesh out the whole picture, an example would be something like this. There is a slight issue causing minor grief. Players will get 1000 compensation currency x level of completion. These are arbitrary numbers and can be modified. For example:
-
- Below Uncollected = 1000
- Uncollected = 2000
- Cavalier = 3000
- Throne Breaker = 4000
Items in the store could be anything from upgrade materials, iso, gold, AQ / AW / Normal Revives and Heal potions, Shards of all flavors, all the way up to 6 star nexus crystals. DO NOT put a restriction on who gets what. There are some poor players who love this game but struggle to get Cavalier. If they want to bank their 2000 compensation currency until they hit 100,000 for a 6 star Nexus who is that really hurting? It also gives them something to strive for, also, since compensation currency is only doled out when Kabam has a "whoopsie", there's no consistent way to get this currency.
Finally, yes, I know that having a "compensation" store may look bad, like people would say "This game is so bad they had to implement a compensation store?". So don't call it a compensation store, I don't know, maybe call it Dead Pools store of "Needful Things" or something kitschy. You get the idea.
