Is it just me who might just opt out of Cosmic Horror?

I think a lot of the problem here is the amount of research or lack off, this isn't the type of quest use the persistent charges whenever you earn them on whatever you can afford and just playthrough like you would any other fight, the bulk of the rewards is in the daily key quests this is just an extra for you to have fun and a good challenge and power up your symbiod. if you die to a node or ability that's on you not the quest, you have multiple pre-fights providing everything from evade counter to power-control if you don't read them and adjust your playstyle accordingly and die to mix master or similar that is not because the content is to difficult.

Also to those saying well pushed through and spent a bunch of revives it's not worth it it, why, seriously if you wait to r5 him he scale to the power level of a 5/65 champion by the end of the month, their is no point going in early with an underpower champ and then getting angry because you think it's to hard.

I only got Lil Symbiote to rank3 so it even tougher to do it.. could use the 25% tier5 class catalyst selector thou..

That's not exactly right. The game pushes you to visit and use the forums, there's a "find out more" message in every in game update, probably because they try to build and sustain a community, so there's thousands of players visiting frequently. When and if they decide to participate and talk, is a completely different matter. Personally I was visiting the forums for a couple of years, and I started posting during last year's quarantine.

There's a few thousand players that visit the forums, maybe a few times that use the Reddit. There's on the order of a million players, plus or minus. If you look at the thread that announces the September side objectives leading into the October events, that thread has (as I write this) 91.7k views. That's a thread that's been active for about two months and that includes a lot of repeat views. The October thread has only 50k views, and threads with less posting activity (which would be refreshed and revisited less often) like the Summoner Showdown 2021 announcement have 5.6k views.

Another way to estimate the percentage of players who visit the forums is to compare download data to forum sign up data. It is actually possible to see how many people are joining the forums for the first time: this is listed in the activity page. Looking at the last thirty days, 6808 people have joined the forums in the last 30 days. Sensor Tower estimates 200k downloads of the game in September, which implies approximately 3.4% of the people who download the game subsequently join the forums. That number probably has significant error bars, but even accounting for that the participation ratio is clearly very low.
That's pretty interesting, it is a big number by itself the 50k for example, even 6k joining a mobile game forum if we talking for new players, is also big. I would like to see the comparison with other mobile gaming forums though, we can't compare with..don't know, a Bethesda forum, obviously.
The numbers look big, but we have to consider turnover. Obviously, we aren't keeping those 200k players that download every month: we'd have more than eight million players playing, and we definitely don't have that many. Our playerbase is probably fairly stable, plus or minus, which means we get 200k new players a month but we lose 200k a month as well, most of them probably very casual players that tried the game out for a short period of time and moved on. A similar situation probably occurs with the forums, where 7k join, but most of those people stop playing the game fairly quickly and subsequently stop reading the forums as well. It is possible a higher percentage of people stay that join the forums, as that might signal more interest in the game, but that wouldn't be enough to turn 3.4% into double digits, say.

Getting players to participate in community venues is something game operators often try to encourage in one form or another, because more engaged players are more likely to stick around, but traditionally this percentage is very low, and even lower for mobile games than say PC or console games (because mobile games tends to attract more casual players less likely to be engaged enough to do that sort of thing).
Totally agree. MCOC is far too complicated (at least these days) for new players to stick around if they play casually. I don't know if this was a console/pc game, would ve had the current success though. (Not even talking about the completely different mechanics something like that would need, it would be awesome though to have a "street fighter" version to play)

Looking at my collection I don’t have the needed counter because the node combination is insane.

Highly disagree. Show your roster. You probably have counters to half the quests

I’m getting my ass kicked on lane 2 half the time. I used 11 revives clearing for the 6* shards and t5cc. This event could use a tone down or a buff to the summoned symbiotes stats IMO.

Tbh my main issue is having to do the completed paths over and over. Being able to skip them and collect the win for his pre-fight ability would have been a great QOL move by Kabam. Lmfao! As if!

As for the difficulty, I’ve not read or fully understand how he works, and therefore am struggling on the second path as I’m refusing to use items at that stage!

Or you could not be impatient? The symbiote goes to r5 so obviously it’s intended you take him to r5 for the last few paths...

Ok well I was wrong, I just did all the way through lane 4 and the boss with 4 revives with a r4 symbioid. My only deaths were silly mistakes like missing a dex, that was incredibly easy with the prefights

Finished SQ already, but I will still r5 that Summoner Symbioid.

Lol I can't even participate because I didn't complete the previous objectives.

I’ve just finished the 4 lane run with my rank 4 - MCOC noob just released a video showing how to manage the pre-fights. Made everything super simple.

I cleared it all with 1 revive used. If you’re struggling I’d suggest checking the video out!

Found the last lane to be easier than the 3rd cause of the pre fights

This is why I couldn't understand all the "opt out" people when we only had Steve at R2 or R3. It turned out to be a fun, well made quest. Hope people didn't shoot themselves in the foot by losing the chance to take him to R5.
  • SearmenisSearmenis Member Posts: 1,675 ★★★★★
For those that can't get him to r5 like me, r4 can also work. It s a bit more difficult, but you can get through.

I waited for r5 Steve before I went in. It was a blast. Ranked 5 Steve is too good for the quest. Burned 1 revive on the boss but that was because of error on my part. Worth it for a six star and 25% t5cc of our choice. Finally can take my warlock to r3.

Not sure why people are doing it with a low Sym. If it's too hard with a maxed out Sym fair enough. I'll probably test it tomorrow when he gets to R4 but no plans to try to finish it until he is fully maxed.

I haven't tried to finish the whole quest but I do try one lane per rank-up of Steve. I doubt the last lane is going to be easier with an r5 than the second one is with an r3 (or the first one was with an r2), so I do feel like I have a good understanding of the quest's difficulty level and the amount of grind you have to do to complete it fully.
Turns out not so much lol. @Ercarret did you take your Sym to R5?
