Back Issues #8: Deadpoolooza!

Once upon a time, I made the best quest ever!

That's right, you thought some stuffy old designer was going to write this message, but it was ME!

It’s time for Back Issues #8, smacking you in the face on Wednesday, November 10th!

Just like those other dusty old Back Issues we dig out of the closest, THE EXCEPTIONAL DEADPOOLOOZA will let all of my lovely little Summoners relive a classic quest from the good 'ol days, available in TWO TASTY FLAVOURS:

The classic difficulty is a recreation of the original quest. While not completely 1:1, the layouts, difficulty, and dialogue are all the same as you remember. Look back with smug impunity at how easy the game used to be and flex those muscles!

The variant difficulty is a new spin on the quest, available for Summoners level 45 and up. This version features difficult challenges, new opponents, some map layout updates, and buffs that will empower your #Mercenary Champions... and ME!

... as well as those other slackers who're biting the Deadpool brand.

That means all your #Mercenary and Deadpool-family buddies are going to be juiced up and ready to fight, but all other Champions can't do much more than show up! That's right, it's MY quest, so I made it exclusively for those with excellent taste, dubious morals, or both!

The Variant Challenge

Like I literally just said, this Quest is all about me and all the wannabes. So here’s the sitch, we’ve got Global buffs for me and my homies, and we’ve got new Cross Fight buffs for all the other Mercs. Check em out!

Global Buffs

Mercs for Money: The Defender reduces all incoming damage by {95}%, unless the Attacker is #Mercenary, Deadpool, Deadpool (X-Force), Goldpool, Platinumpool, Gwenpool, Venompool, or Masacre.

Star of the Show: Obviously I should get a huge buff in these quests, I'm the original! Let's pump up all my stats, and finally put something on my SP1. (This buff supplies Deadpool (and ONLY Deadpool) bonus attack, bonus armor, bonus crit rate, increased regeneration potency, and applies a Degen effect to the Defender on a successful SP1)

We Should All Have This Power Anyways: This doesn't make sense. Why don't all my copies have the same abilities as me!? Grant Attacking Deadpool (X-Force), Goldpool, Platinumpool, Gwenpool, Venompool, or Masacre permanent Passive Regeneration of [120]% of their Max Health per minute, scaling with their Power.

Cross Fight Ability Buffs

“But Mr Thrillson!”, you might say, and I would say “Yes my sweet little cherub?”, “These don’t benefit the other #Mercenaries at all!”. And you’d be right! I did things differently this time since this is my quest and will be better than all of the other Back Issues, periodt.

Defeating Deadpooloids throughout the Quest will grant you special abilities that you can carry forward into the rest of the quest, making your Mercs stronger and stronger!

Here’s what you’ve got:

Strapped Up (Skill Deadpooloid): Defeating this Defender grants the Attacker a permanent "Strapped Up" Cross-Fight ability. "Strapped Up" causes the Attacker's Special Attacks to randomly inflict additional Debuffs for the remainder of the quest.

Starlight Acrobatics (Cosmic Deadpooloid): Defeating this Defender grants the Attacker a permanent "Starlight Acrobatics" Cross-Fight ability. "Starlight Acrobatics" grants the Attacker a Phase Passive when they dash back and hold block, causing incoming Attacks to Miss.

Bad Breath (Science Deadpooloid): Defeating this Defender grants the Attacker a permanent "Bad Breath" Cross-Fight ability. "Bad Breath" causes the Attacker to inflict Poison Debuffs on Opponents who are near them.

Sucker Punch (Mutant Deadpooloid): Defeating this Defender grants the Attacker a permanent "Sucker Punch" Cross-Fight ability. "Sucker Punch" makes the Attacker permanently Unblockable while the Opponent is above a certain HP threshold.

You Shall Not Cast (Mystic Deadpooloid): Defeating this Defender grants the Attacker a permanent "You Shall Not Cast" Cross-Fight ability. "You Shall Not Cast" grants Power Steal to the Attacker's Heavy and Special Attacks.

Cyber Hive (Tech Deadpooloid): Defeating this Defender grants the Attacker a permanent "Cyber Hive" Cross-Fight ability. "Cyber Hive" grants all of the Attacker's attacks a chance to Poison and Shock the Opponent.

There really needs to be some revives given for this poorly designed content.

Complaining about the X Force boss is dumb.

It says a 100% less chance to throw a special, this doesn't include ability accuracy etc. It isn't a flat 100%. He's immune to AAR meaning he technically still has a chance to throw special attacks.

The venompool wasn't even difficult provided you are like myself and other end game players and hapoen to have the correct mastery and champion set up. It should NOT be that way.

Had zero issues in with the Lifecycle boss either so not sure where the issue is there.

Actually it's not dumb considering the fact Kabam just said it's not "end game content". You just proved that is too difficult.
Already corrected myself to say I was wrong and it is bugged.

But it is certainly not a difficult fight.
With the bug, it is a difficult fight with one counter or you have to hope you can get it with the whole team. That sounds like an endgame task, something variant is not
I'm referring to the Deadpool X Force when saying it isn't a difficult fight.

Even with an R3 Apoc the Venompool fight was still an absolute shambles. It needs changed. Taking away the 1% perma-regen would actually mean even somebody like Masacre could work that fight with relative ease.
So am I. The only champion that can really solo the fight as far as I know is nebula. That’s more niche than it should be thanks to the bug. And even then, I wouldn’t say it’s a fair fight for the current target audience.
Yeah I've solo'd with Nebs and R3 domino currently but I appreciate a large majority of the player base won't have those counters.

That being said, Variant 1 was also a ****-house of niche counters and terrible node combinations and some how we've all managed to get that done lol.

Try soloing with Domino when you don't get lucky on sp2 and it doesn't crit then we can call this "easy"
That we somehow managed to get through V1 doesn't make it a good design "lol"

The bosses of 1.1 & 1.2 are bugged. First one won't die, and 2nd is just AON bit description says 100% chance to not use specials.

That's V4 and the 1* quest sucks balls. Everything else was fun but that 1* quest was a massive slog to explore, I hope to never see it's kind again.

It was fine at the time. Caustic temper Mordo sucked but it was a small price to pay for a 4-5 gem. The HB buff made it worse, and the rewards are now dated compared to variants 5-7 though.

Variants 1 and 2 didn’t have the same effort/cost to reward ratio IMO.

Just finished the first two chapters - DPX with fundamentals is definitely bugged. That deadpooloid miniboss before with life cycle seems bugged too.

Not touching the final chapter until there is clarification on that Venompool...

There's always some guy who Kramer's into a thread to declare that the fight is easy as if to dismiss the complaints of everyone else. How about warning or banning those guys Kabam? Their contributions are not at all constructive.
You're entitled to moan and complain as equally as I'm entitled to denounce your moaning and complaining.

As someone who claims to be an endgame player and handles these V8 shenanigans with ease, the community would appreciate more constructive comments rather than you disparaging others for not being able to clear the bugged bosses as easily as you can.

While I haven’t done a large amount of variant content, I feel this is definitely one that I am going to skip for the foreseeable future. It just seems like there’s no clear target for this variant. Based on statements made, this is not endgame content, thus there will not be any increase in rewards.

However, based on difficulty and roster restriction, it’s hard to see how this isn’t endgame content. Unless you have a wide and varied roster, most of the champs that you can use in this variant, a good proportion of players don’t have ranked. Many of the champs aren’t really top rank-up choices and probably aren’t on players’ lists to take up right away. While there are some good champs in the mix, it just seems like the restrictions for this variant are the most niche out of all the variants we’ve had so far.

So while the rewards would certainly be a help for progressing players like myself where 5* champs are still valuable, it feels like the way the variant was designed, it was done so with endgame players that have more diverse rosters in mind.

the hardest resource by far for end game players to acquire is t5b, and this quest gives 3 full t5b!

Here’s my post that got closed, I’m supposed to put it here;

TL;DR - I’m not happy with the restrictions in V8. I think the difficulty-rewards level is way too high. Plus the bugs aren’t helping anyone out.

So, let’s start with the bugs. (Not including the input issues). I’ve seen that the DPX boss is bugged, making him a lot harder than needed. Plus any other miscellaneous bugs floating around from the updates making it hard to play.

Then the global nodes. Ok, it’s cool that Deadpool has a crazy buff, but how many people actually have him at all, let alone as a 4* or 5*? And it’s cool that Pool champs get regen, but most of them aren’t worth ranking. How many have already ranked up a venom pool?

And what about the merc global? They don’t get boosted, only other champs get nerfed. Plus, #mercenary is a lot smaller of a pool of champs than any of the other variants.

What about the rewards Rip? Surely they are good? Nope. Same as V7 for content that is harder.

From what I’ve seen of steams and other posts, no ones having fun with the nodes either. VP boss seems to have a bad design, and I’m sure we’ll find other things that aren’t great.

I get that kabam said it’s not endgame content, so the rewards aren’t really going to match stuff like act 7/Carina’s challenges, but at least change the rank up gems beyond 2017. (Not to mention the whole scenario called out by @DrZola in the official thread) For content intended for mid game players, the restrictions are pretty high compared to the other content at this level.

I was really looking forward to this variant, but I don’t think I’ll do any of it for a while.

Y'all **** this variant up. We can all agree that overall design is ****. This is way to champion specific, 15 usable mercenary champs in the game what if you don't have them? The reward thing like come on now what the ****. I still have half of those rank of gems sitting in my inventory on the previous variants. The players want six star shards and sig Stones not goddamn rank up gems. I like many others here will not be doing this content. As for thrills snide comment perhaps you guys at kabam could get somebody with a little more people skills to do your forum posts in the future

Well I think this content is awful, but I thought I'd share a piece of potentially helpful info for the 1.2 DPX boss.

I've only done one lane so far, but I took a 6*r2 Masacre, Domino, Gwenpool, Taskmaster, and 5*r4 Winter Soldier (if the ranks weren't mentioned, it's cause they were really just there for synergy purposes).

Masacre cleared the lane just fine, then at DPX, I used the three synergy champs to do whatever little damage I could (it wasn't much), then Masacre to do the bulk of the damage (getting him past that 30% power gain). Then Winter Soldier for clean up. With the Taskmaster synergy, he was getting the power drain pretty often. Enough to keep him in check and get him down without revives.

So in closing, this sucks, but that's at least one viable option for folks with champs most people probably have by now.

The rng based boss is not fun when you see a rank5 domino on YouTube beat him so you take rank3 fully boosted and this happens and he still at 100% health

What utter, utter garbage this turned out to be. More bugs and idiotic fights/paths. Bailed on the final VP boss because the whole design is just stupid and bugged. The more complicated you all try to make this game and the nodes the worse they turn out, you’re obviously not as smart as you think you are. Thanks for saving me some money on Cyber Weekend, I refuse to spend another penny on this jacked up game.

That fight is garbage but did you think Apoc reversed the healing by magic? That's as much on you as it is on them for designing an absolutely trash fight.

Since I started playing MCOC, I've generally done all variants on the day they are out. However, I'll be waiting for this one to stabilize before trying it out.
