I have never really been one for hoarding unnecessarily. But in the light of this atrocious trade in store for the 6* Awakening gem, a resource that to this day has only been available by completing abyss, exploring abyss, or exploring act 6, as well as 18,000 units on special offers.
Yet today, we saw one for 5 generic 5* gems. Of course, there are also the terrible value trade ins for 5* generics, as well as the great value for 5*
Now the thing I dont get is, why does Kabam reward players for hoarding massive amounts of materials when they encourage summoners to use them, and even talk about the slowing of servers with mass hoarding.
I could not get this awakening gem. Yet had I hoarded the last 4 months, I could have. After opening all of my traded in 4* awakening gems, I have 1 generic, 1 mutant, 2 skill, 2 science, 2 mystic, and 2 tech. It sounds close, but really, im off by 4 ags. Not even remotely close.
I dont often rankup 5*s, theyre mostly irrelevant to me. I usually only rank them when I get them from a Cav and want to rank a new champion/the champs 6* featured is far off, or it they have no 6* counter part. As a result of this attitude towards 5*s, i havent viewed 5* awakening gems as valuable in a long time. Ill happily pop a 5* ag into a champ if i plan on doing something with them.
I have used 6 ags in the past 4 months I calculated. I used one on Switch, one on Swigil, one on Herc, one on Nimrod, one on Knull and one on Goldpool. I pulled Switch, Herc, and Knull from cavs before their featureds. And i pulled Goldpool/Swigil from methods that cant get dupes realistically.
So what am I supposed to do? Anticipate a future event in which I can trade these gems in? Im not going to not use a 5* ag, thats what they are for. To be used.
Because Herc and Switch got generic 5* ags, if it had not spent them, I would have a 6* awakening gem right now. And the worst part is, to this day, I have only had 3 6* awakening gems. A tech from act 6, a tech from abyss, and a generic from abyss. Every class 6* awakening gem would make an enormous impact on my account.
The irony of it all is that this event is supposed to get people to clear out their inventories. But all it did is give me more of a reason to hoard. Whether it be 5* ags or not. What if there is a trade in for 2% t5cc at some point? What about shard crystal upgrades? I now feel much less inclined to use items, and much more inclined ti save them.
I dont want this taken as completely a negative for Kabam, their idea was kind, but the execution was poor. I very much appreciate the implementation of 6* ags outside of the normal ways of acquisition, but I would have preferred them to have been more even.

I don't know what part of it was even close to be consider a leftover.
It's a bit of a weird case. They incentivize, and kinda force in some way for people to hoard items, like potions and revives.. Although they don't say it. And in other cases, they feel like some of the hoarded items don't deserve to be hoarded, and make people use them
Not sure what I expected, but it does seem like it creates incentives that contradict what we’ve been told in the past.
I definitely appreciate the effort from the team. I used a slew of 5* AGs on the likes of SW, Herc, Peni, Shang, Thing, Silver Centurion (if memory serves me) over the past couple of months. In hindsight, it would have served me better to sit on all of those. Live and learn.

Whether you own one, two, a billion, or *zero* of a crystal type, so long as someone else owns at least one, it doesn't really matter.
Second, there's no nuance to this statement. Kabam absolutely can discourage hoarding and yet reward players who have lots of stuff. There's nothing contradictory about that, because hoarding and spending are not binary. Kabam wants most players to spend resources now on things that will help their progress now, rather than save resources at the expense of holding back their progress. They see players complain about gold shortages, but see players also hold onto their gold crystals until gold boosts arrive, which causes them to have gold shortages. They see players complain about all sorts of other shortages, but they also see lots of resources tied up in unopened crystals. There are lots of reasons that happens, some reasonable and some not reasonable. But if hoarding is causing players to complain about resource shortages, then Kabam absolutely should be discouraging hoarding in general.
But that's not the same thing as saying "spend everything now." That's honestly foolish, and no one at Kabam has ever said spend everything now. If you're holding resources because you have no reasonable productive uses for them, you aren't hoarding. You're simply not wasting. If there's a 5* champ that could help your progress right now if it was awakened, you should awaken it. The same is true for any other resource. But if you don't have any specific use for a resource that would have a material impact on your progress, then usage becomes completely optional. Always has, and no one at Kabam has ever said otherwise.
In any game like this, there will be some people short of any resource and other people with lots of it. There are two things the game can do. They can make sure the stuff people are short of is never useful, so that the people who have lots of it will never be able to use it, but the people short of it will never feel left out of anything. That basically penalizes players who play efficiently. Or they can create resource sinks for the resources players have excess of which rewards efficient play but then penalizes players who have less resources through circumstance. You get to choose which version of wrong you want players to beat you over the head with.
If you do, then do. You have every right to do so. And if you are saying that the 5* AGs you spent in the past were casual awakenings that you now regret, then you probably should. There is always an opportunity cost associated with spending any resource. The benefit you get from spending should outweigh that opportunity cost. Just remember the game does not owe you some future use for those items. You have to decide what you want more: the benefit of using them now, or the possibility of a potential use later. As long as you pick the choice you can live with and don't complain about the consequences of the choice you make, either choice is fine.
I'm reasonably sure the Kabam developers feel the same way. I generally recommend to players not to hoard. That doesn't mean I tell them to spend everything now. I tell them if there's a use for the stuff that will help them significantly now, spend now. If not, save until such an opportunity arises. That's not hoarding. That's intelligent resource management.

The 3 Class 5* AGs Trade-In for 1 Generic 5* AG is overpriced imo, 2 Class for 1 Generic would've been plenty fair enough, however I almost guarantee you it was made 3 because of the option to Trade-In 5 Generic 5* AGs for the 6* AG Crystal.
As well you can easily tell the AG Trade-Ins were designed for mass hoarding, because you can do that 3 Class 5* AGs for 1 Generic 5* AG Trade-In Up To 3 Times Per Class! I've never even thought about being able to hold 9 Class AGs at once...
I sure hope everyone on here complaining about not hoarding because Kabam said it's bad has nothing in overflow and no crystals in there account. Somehow I don't think that's the case for everyone...
It'd be awesome if Kabam increased the limit on the 6* AG trade in. I'd personally love to pick up a second 6* AG.

And how is that relevant? Thats so idiotic. If I have maxed t4cc, im not gonna open it bruh. Same with 4* sigs. I had 5* ags. Im going to use them if I have them.
Wow your so cool you have 10 5* generics, is that from the max sig crystals you get from whaling on cavs? If not, please enlighten us so we can learn your ways.
And still ended up with curtesy RNG, sometimes I’m not sure the feelings I should have towards the game and the ideas behind certain in game stuffs
