Where did the term "suicide mastery" come from?

Just curious 'cause it's quite dark for a child-friendly game.

It came from the effect of the masteries, the more specials you use, the more health you lose so it's like killing yourself

Is there a less morbid alternative?

You could call them by their actual names

What would you rename it ? Quicksand Mastery ?
    attrition mastery

    attrition mastery
the process of reducing something's strength or effectiveness through sustained attack or pressure

I don't think it's the same meaning as what the masteries are doing. The masteries cause a loss in health, in return for an increase in attack.
Attrition seems to mean losing strength by being attacked or pressured.

I guess the closest word to becoming stronger by inflicting self-harm is masochism?

Does suicide mean becoming stronger by inflicting self-harm?
No it doesn't, but attrition means the opposite of what we're meaning to say. Suicide means inflicting self harm. Attrition, from what I gather, isn't exclusively weakness or harm to self anyway.
But good on you, I learnt a new word today.

Masochism is close, except it means pleasure from self harm or humiliation. Also, it is the name of a node, so a bit confusing.

Self-harm mastery could be an alternative for suicides as you state. Suicide is when you launch an sp with less than 5% HP actually, above that limit is only self-harm

There’s a retired YouTuber who used the term “attrition masteries” and he was referring to what the masteries do to your health pool. Makes more sense if you think of it that way.

Some YouTubers have stopped using the term. They use "damage masteries" or "recoil masteries", etc. instead.

It is also an incorrect description of the masteries. The goal is not to kill yourself, but to gain a massive attack increase with the risk of losing health. And even then losing health is not guaranteed (see Corvus, Mags, Omega, robots, the Fury/Quake synergy, etc).

I have two friends who have committed suicide, one last year, so I cringe at the use of the term in general. But I do not fault anyone who uses the term, because it has become so general in use.

This is what my alliance uses. Also "attack masteries" works better than SM, IMO.

Recoil can be used to describe all of suicide masteries if you want.

Because no sane person would run only recoil

Just refer to them as the recoil masteries.. you're only going to put points into recoil if you're going further to double edge and liquid courage..

How about Dark-Side Masteries? It's the only thing I can think of that provides an increased attack, at the cost of personal health, like the way Palpatine's use of the force decimated his body.

I really dislike the term “suicides”. I’ve always thought they should be called “Liquid Edge”- A combination of Liquid Courage and Double Edge.
“Recoil masteries” also works and is self explanatory in the game.

In addition to Dark-Side Masteries, "Chaos Masteries" could fit the bill, too. Think Fringilla, in The Witcher, attempting to lift the stone from her table. Her magic came at the cost of her hand.

Well, we could always call it Nietzsche's masteries. Nietzsche is the guy who said "That which does not kill us makes us stronger" which seems kinda apt.

Down side, I probably couldn't pronounce or spell it right without screwing up. Up side, I don't use those masteries anyway.

It’s not that big of a deal.

I've been thinking about Logan and how his adamantium makes him stronger but also killing him overtime so it's the adamantium mastery now, I decided.

I'm being forced to disagree because I distinctly remember someone either here or on reddit who ran just recoil, maybe because they didn't have the units or something.

The game is not exactly child friendly - No accounts should be created for those under 13 years old according to terms of service.
