6* Points in basic arena

Please excuse if this is old news, I’m a returning player.

But is it intended that 6* champs score different points in the 6* basic and the 6* featured arena?

In the basic arena 6* champs score the same points as 5* champs.

However, in the featured arena 6* champs score double the points of a 5* champ, just like 5* champs score double the points of a 4* champ. It feels like this is how it should be everywhere, especially since 6* champs have the longer cooldown as well…

So is it a known bug or has it ever been explained why 6* champs score so low in the basic arena?

Think about it a bit and you'll see it makes sense.
Basic arena is for middle-level players to extend their 6* roster. They have less 6*'s, but they can still be competitive in the basic arena because 5* and 6* score similar points.
And seriously, if it was a bug, you think nobody would've caught by now? 😀

Think of it like just being a 5* Arena, where it can’t be dominated by 6* players putting up tremendous points.

Lower players can still use whatever amount of 6* they do have (so at least their small 6* roster wouldn’t be totally locked out), but is intended for those using a 5* roster to have a shot at some of the “2nd time around” slightly older champs as prizes.

And yes, it has been like that ever since they did the major restructuring of Arenas a while back.

I do think they need to look into the Basic Arena though. As 6 stars get stronger, 5 Stars will start to get locked out of the content regardless. I usually only use 5 Stars for the Basic Arena and using 5 Star Rank 4s against 6 Star Rank 4s is not an easy fight. Can't imagine the experience people are having if they have to use 5 Star Rank 3s. As a more endgame player, I think the Arenas are fine in their current state for me but I can't deny that Arena was a huge tool for my progression and in the current state, it is much less friendly for Proven/Uncollected and even Cavalier players than it was for me when I was at those levels.

When they went to 6* arena. There was a lot of crying about milestones in basic and featured both being at 16 mil. Most of the units where in basic and featured in the milestones. Granted I was one who thought the basic arena was a tad bit to much on milestones. I thought and still think trials and featured should not of been changed. Only change should of been to basic arena. Easy fix was to cut it to 8 mil and give 6s the same point system that is on Sundays. Which is about half way between what you get in basic and featured. Putting most of the units in milestones in trials is stupid. And from an arena grinder who doesn’t do it anymore this is one of the reasons that and kabam really not doing enough to get rid of the arena botters or mercs. Sorry but a week ban just isn’t enough

The shortest version I can come up with, that skips a lot of details. The devs decided to revamp the arenas, in part to simplify them. They were taking significant amount of dev time every week to set up, because the old arenas were constantly changing graphics and rewards, which had to be set up by hand by someone. They decided to simplify the arenas from five to three, with one of them being a static arena that didn't need dev time to keep up to date.

This created some issues when it came to the rewards in the arenas, particularly units. There were a lot of different options to farm units in the original arenas that didn't exist in the reconfigured arenas, and the devs tried to address that by making changes to how the milestones and points worked. However, a big complication was the fact that the old arenas had limits on what you could use. Some you could use six star champs in, some you couldn't. Because the two new arenas (outside of the trials arena) were going to be awarding 6* champs (basic and featured) the devs couldn't (read: wouldn't) ban six star champs from the 6* basic arena. But that now meant that it would be so much easier to blitz the 6* basic arena than it used to be to get similar rewards from the old arenas.

If they adjusted the milestones in the 6* basic arena to match the scoring power of 6* champs, then players who did not have large 6* rosters would be at a severe disadvantage compared to the old arenas where that wasn't as much of a disadvantage. So they needed to keep the milestone requirements low to match the points that 5* rosters could earn. But if the milestones needed to be low and 6* champs needed to be allowed in, that meant 6* champs couldn't score their normal enhanced bonus points. So their base points were lowered in the basic arena compared to the featured arena.

This was seen as a reasonable compromise. You now had a 6* featured arena where 6* rosters could maintain their scoring advantage. You had a 6* basic arena where 5* rosters would have a similar scoring capacity as the older arenas did. And the trials arena for lower progression rosters, where most of the units actually are.

There was a lot of discussion internally regarding all sorts of alternatives. This was the one that came the closest to satisfying the most constraints, without going down a rabbit hole of pursuing endless tweaking.
