What if relics could tie into synergy bonuses?
For example, you could put an antman relic on ghost, and then get the benefit from that synergy.
Another one could be the hulkbuster relic on ultron, he’s great with the synergy, but a little impractical without.
The idea is that any champion would receive the same benefit from the relic as they would from a synergy.

1.) It takes ridiculous amounts of gold to rank them.
When summoners often struggle with having enough gold to rank their next champ? Why would they waste gold on relics instead?
2.) Too many tier levels all at once. And a long with them too many necessary items shattered (once again) into thousands of shards.
3.) Few of the shards for these items are coming from normal game play. Once again they must be purchased (in tiny amounts) using glory or loyalty or units.or whatever game.curremcy you choose.
Again, why would summoners struggling for champ rank up materials, redirect their currency and the effort from the primary goal of this game, collect and rank champs, to obtaining minuscule pieces of a relic materials? Additionally the rng plays into it. So currency wasted on item pieces randomly generated over months of game play,.to collect and complete items for the purpose of leveling up or ranking up an item that is only useful with a handful handful of champs?
The reason these have not caught on, and won't, is because there are already too any of them at too many tiers, and ranking them take resources away from bigger and better champs.
