It implies (if not flat out states) that the offers and the shop are separate, but both under the umbrella of the event. Unless they completely forgot how to English, the offers will not be necessary for purchase to be able to trade in Units, Gold, AG's, and crystals.

Some general thoughts:

I assume that the "crystals" trade in will be for things like quest crystals, but I would love some upgraded version of the solo crystals. I have like 6.3 mill shards saved up, and they could definitely use an additional (and more rewarding) tier above "supreme".
Hoping this is reminicent of the deadpool gold offers. My 46 million gold could use an outlet.
If there is a 7* AG awarded for stashed up 6* AGs, I might die. I will immediately hop back on my previous pedastal of getting annoyed when a previously undisclosed number of items (that have a low availability, not talking about currencies like gold/loyalty/units) that I've been incentivised to dump into champions before they hit a large drop in value (on obtaining dupes of almost all champs) suddenly are part of some crazy valuable deal that nobody could have anticipated. Especially if Kabam literally strongly discourages us from thinking that a similar deal will be available in the future.
To counterpoint my previous point, one of the reasons that I never open solo crystals is that the AG's received have nowhere to go and a fairly low item cap. I suppose that great trade-ins for these might incentivise opening lower solo crystals, but that leads me to my next point.
They did not mention in the announcement, and I don't remember seeing something like this before (so correct me if I missed this), but I really wish there was a trade-in or upgrade function for boosts in this event. They are the biggest reason I don't open solo crystals. I have a ton of arena boost crystals, war boosts, and just regular boosts that go to waste all the time (War I don't blame on Kabam, I don't play in a high enough tier to use them) because they aren't needed for regular questing, but I still rarely have the biggest boosts when I actually need them (30% for Abyss, Gauntlet, etc).
Overall, I'm always super pumped when they do offers for things that all players (of respective progression levels) can enjoy and that utilize underutilized game items.

Oh btw I remember the DP's gold sale upsetting a lot of people cause they didn't have enough time to prepare or farm for it

this happened in the past once , iirc , they used to let us trade a few 5 star generic ag for a 6 star awakening gem ; and other special trades as well . But that was a while ago , when 5 star champs were still meta

So, heres the thing. We can only gets points by completing BG objectives and AQ. Which means the ammount of points is limited, no matter how much you can actually play the game.

So essentially the remaining points is in buying offers. All there is left to know is if it can be achievable without buying p2w offers via money

Not trying to dull your hype, but in the past, I've seen people set their own expectations really high, and then be disappointed when they're not met.

This is not to say that this isn't a cool event with some really rad deals to be found, because there is!

The best way to temper expectations is to release the details at the same time as these announcements. You're setting up for failure by creating hype without the information necessary to evaluate what's coming.

I assume these will still be useless after event. As soon as I get a new champ they are immediately awakened. Then back to selling AG's when they expire. I regret selling my 2*'s years ago or would have more 2* sigs to sell too. I mainly open the lower level solo crystals though to dump sigs into my 2 & 3*'s.

Then good to put a forum post and tell what exactly to expect. Then it will always match expectations. Brief Inbox message only raises curiosity and innovation raising expectation. I already drew a picture in my mind for this event.

Will there be trade in for crystal shards, for example I have saved 250k 5 star shards for the new featured in the hopes of ascending a few of them, and the new crystal drops Tuesday

If I pop all those crystals and there is a trade in on Friday I will be pretty annoyed so could be get some clarification as to what the ingame message means by "crystals" eg solo event and catalyst crystals or actual hero shard crystals?

I don't think this is what they meant. The trade-ins in the past have tended not to be champion crystal shards, but I wouldn't complain. It also seems to be trade-ins for typically lower value things that people tend to hoard, or currencies.

Maybe this wouldn't work, but I think it would be a cool event for Kabam to plan ahead (like 3 months or something) and do some sort of merc board list where players can save up the various currencies, items, crystals, etc for the given rewards. I know that some things vaguely like this exist, but it would also be interesting to have combined costs of like 100k battle chips, 100k loyalty, 1 mill gold, and 100 units for a 6* featured or something. It could allow players to passively target different game rewards, save up, and not just have random (from a player perspective) prices of currencies attached to a limited time store that comes out of the blue. Not that I hate things like this when I benefit from them, but as a general objective of designing the best event/game, you should want to alienate the least number of players possible.
