Is there a way for me to remove myself from AW?

From active (attack phase) war ? NO. And leaving the alliance doesn’t help any either, they are still treated as locked into that current war until war actually ends.

From Persistent Placement Defense (future wars) ? YES. From “Place Champs” (defense setup), just do JOIN into a different group and that will initially remove your persistent defenders from the one you are in (for future wars), they are removed whether or not you continue to place them in this other BG or not.
