How do different update versions work in the context of BGs?

I was reading through the changelog from the update (https://playcontestofchampions.com/news/v42-1-release-notes/), and very much enjoyed the phrasing about some of the changes.

Then I started to wonder about what happens when different versions of the game face each other in competitive modes, like BGs.

For example, the newest update "Reminded Nick Fury his LMD doesn’t care about Ability Accuracy Reductions".

I know there was the bug where sometime, Archangel's neurotoxins sometimes were able to prevent Nick Fury's second life or remain unpurified when the 2nd life kicks in. This update seems to fix that. This makes sense in the Solo content setting.

But, in competitive settings, what happens when a (Game Updated) Nick Fury Defender faces off against a Non-Game updated Archangel Attacker? Is the bug still present or fixed for the Attacker?

In BG (same as Arena), *BOTH* champs (attacker and defender) are running on the version of game that you have installed, for YOUR fight.
Other person's fight (both your defender, and their attacker) is running on that other person's device.

Now, if both you and your opponent both decide to use AA attacker against the other one's Nick Fury, then 1 of you would have to go thru his 2nd life, while the other of you would not have to.

Guess you could call that unfair, or not, but same for any other bug that's fixed, or changed, or nerfed, etc.

Only fixed, changed, etc, for the device running with new game update (where the fight is occurring).
