Let’s Talk about Ability Accuracy Reduction

Let’s first suppose, for example, you wanted to do the 8.1.6 deathless guillotine Carina’s challenge. You decide to go the power technician route with guilly 2099, where the node states that while under the effect of an armor up, a parry will power drain your opponent for 15% of max power. On the first fight versus cyclops, you find out that although the node states that you will, you only have a 70% chance to do so. Why is this, does cyclops have some hidden ability which lowers your ability accuracy? No, of course not, but rather you have the pacify mastery maxed out, lower his ability accuracy by 30%. That is to say, the ability to be power drained when getting parried is one of cyclops abilities, on this node.

This is just one example of how the buff nodes that we encounter sometimes count as defenders’ abilities, making champs/masteries that lower ability accuracy undesirable to use. There’s other examples, such as in fight or flight if the opponent has a slow on them and you’re far away when the timer runs out, you won’t get the unstoppable buff. There was some fight I had recently with black cat which prevented the buff from the node from activating due to AAR, but I don’t remember the exact case of where that was. I’m sure there’s lots of other examples of this in practice that I’m not thinking of right now, these are just some of the most recent times I’ve come across this. It’s something I’ve known about for a while, and I finally have decided to ask about it.

So Kabam, my question to you is, are these interactions intended to dissuade us from using masteries/champions which lower opponent ability accuracy, so we should think twice before trying to use these masteries/rank said champions because the nodes meant to benefit us may simply not apply when using them, or is this just an unfortunate side effect of how the game is coded that may have the potential to get changed in the future?

I removed pacify for a while as due to tb nodes it can fail certain effects that help u also so many benefits recently in story that can fail due to pacify i thought it just wasnt worth it and just now use petrify at 3/3 as for me just seems to work better now

Defender nodes have always been subject to the ability accuracy of the champion you're fighting. If you fight a longshot who has biohazard, then that is a 60% chance of bleed on hits and 150% chance of poison on blocked hits. That's also why last month cosmic champions couldn't get vigilance against Shuri since her ability accuracy can't be modified.

Also, in my opinion, Pacify isn't a mastery worth running just because of all the negative interactions with it. I haven't run it in almost 2 years now. Definitely better to put those points somewhere else.

Indeed, pacify is now a rather useless mastery. The question was more so if people feel like this is how it should be. To me it feels like buffs on you should count as your ability accuracy if anything. As it stands I’ll be doing the same though.

It’s never too hard to play around, just a bit of a nuisance in my opinion. At least to me it doesn’t seem to make that much sense with something benefiting you counting as opponent’s AA. Perhaps I’m alone in thinking this, it is what it is though.

That's the issue though, the nodes are not on you, they're on the opponent and they trigger when you do something. The only time we have ever had a node on us was the last 2 seasons of BGs, and that caused problems when facing someone like Domino who is made of black magic and the tears of the devs.

I hate ability accuracy stuff. It's always confused the absolute **** out of me.

Certain AAR champs suffer a lot against EQ nodes.

I frequently forget this, and take Magneto against Mutant lanes in Throne breaker EQ; and find him completely ineffective against #Metal opponents.

I’d just add the caveat of not worth running as a standard use mastery. circumstantially, it’s incredibly useful. As an example, use it with Magneto on Hazard Shift fights against metal champs, and hit them while they’re parry stunned, you have 100% ability accuracy reduction and it’s easy game easy life.

Great mastery, just gotta be very deliberate about using it.
