What's the point of Gold on this game!?

What can you do with gold on this flippn game!?I have been asking on the chat room of the game.

Gold is used to rank up and level up your champions and also for alliance quest donations.

Considering you need about a million to rank a 5 star to 3/45, or a 4 star to 5/50, gold is very useful. It won't buy you said 4 or 5 star champs, or the cats and iso you also need, so there's that.
