The paradox that ruins the realm event, or why I’m not grinding BGs

TyEdgeTyEdge Member Posts: 3,113 ★★★★★
I’ll try to keep this somewhat brief and constructive.

The realm event for BGs is fundamentally flawed. It exists with an eye toward incentivizing additional participation especially in gladiator circuit.

Unfortunately, it requires an investment from an individual summoner but the return is entirely contingent on the community.

For those of us with kids and/or busy jobs, binge playing isn’t an option. Steady progress is key to long term goals, whether it’s accumulating units or BG points.

This system requires 360 points every two days. Thats 310 points per two days after you deduct the 50 bonus. In the victory track, that’s basically two wins and a loss every day. In GC, it’s a little more than one win and loss per day.

Thanks to changes in the reward structure, however, there’s no guaranteed return for your time or your elder marks. There’s already chatter that we’re behind schedule. Many expect we will fall even farther behind. I’m cautiously optimistic that the extra points for gladiator circuit will help us maintain or pace or maybe even gain ground, but the community needs to hit 700mil for us to get the same 7500 7-star shards we’d get in the old system for 275,000 points (now 3500).

Anyway, we have no track record, no past data shared by Kabam, and the massive carrot being dangled here - the Titan crystal - requires an extraordinary amount of time and effort in a setting where you might not even get close to it because of lack of buy-in from the community. The feelings about whether to go for it or give up are just gross. I like knowing what I’m getting.

I'm a person that don't enjoy this game much anymore, only play aw and aq for fun. I still have 9k elder marks left and I want to contribute by afk in match to lose, but if I do that Kabam will ban me :)

You can only hold a max of 9K elder marks. You'll get that many from the event if you play it normally. Just play how many matches you can with elder marks. That'll be good enough. Given there is no cost to play, any return is better than not playing.

Here's the thing from my perspective. The concept was originally a great idea. It really motivated people when the requirement was to K.O. in Necro. The other side was it was easily attainable. Therefore, the numbers were doable.
This is the second Event which I suspect will not be met because the goals are not in reasonable reach. 1.5 Billion Points is not in tandem with the number of people active enough to reach it in BGs. If they want people to actually meet these goals, they need to be tuned better to what is achievable.

Kabam did not take into account that not all 1 million or over 1 million accounts are active. I know people with 5 accounts that only play on 1-2 accounts.
I see so many people, on global chat, talking about have 2-3 accounts or even more, stating they don't play on their "main" because they cleared all content, or because they don't like their 7* champions, etc.

Well no with that attitude we won't get stuff...

And the other problem with these events is that (joking or otherwise re: your post) they breed toxicity between players playing different ways. Whether it’s here or the subreddit, there are people calling people greedy hoarders for not opening crystals, and this event will inevitably result in people badgering others to do more, all over milestones that were set ambitiously high.

There's a cap to elder marks, just play and use them, you get them with the realm event milestones and victory track milestones

If you have a busy life, start playing now. The more people that participate earlier in the process, the easier it’ll be to reach 1BN.

I already have 1500 points and I just set it down, pressed some buttons and did my chores.
    It's really not hard.

I’ve used elder marks like twice so far, pretty much all energy because I’m saving them for GC. Despite this, im at 820 in 3 days. It’s really easy to get to 5k and above.

    I'm with op.
Game have been pretty bad on my champion rng. And I don't play that much these days. And I won't for this event either.

Not putting extra effort to pull northstar or sable.
I'll settle by doing objectives, that's about it.

Hey man, I get it. I don't like this event anymore than you do. I get a lot of hate for saying I probably won't get suitable rewards based on my progression. I don't think I am being toxic when I say that even if people believe so. Why? Simple I am putting a lot of work to make my 6* shard stash from 450k to what? 460? Lol
I know you have been around a long time, probably play in a similar way I do, min maxing resources.
I understand your frustration about the grind, your personal duties in life and evertthing in between. Lets be honest though, the monent we hit valuable milestones for us, you will be grinding the requirements for it.

I'll make it even simpler: there's an audience which prioritizes playing this game over most other activities in life, and an audience that doesn't. This endeavor is geared towards the former, and no amount of shards or non-t4a material will convince the latter to look twice to re-prioritize their lives. They'll ask themselves I haven't needed a deathless anything to enjoy the game so far, and do I need more champs I have no vested interest in to play a game I barely play to begin with? A slippery slope, to be sure.

We're not in the demo, and that's OK. Good luck to those who are.

Nah, Kabam couldn’t police BGs like they said they were going to, it was an empty threat and all attempts to ban people for point farming got thrown in the too-hard-basket

We’re already well behind pace - on track for 775-800mil. I am way ahead of pace (over 1000 points)
