This is discussing the worsening AI after the recent update and I’ll be talking about more specific instances that have been getting more egregious so I hope this doesn’t get merged but we’ll see
So after the recent update that dropped last Monday, the AI behavior has somehow gotten even worse. I play a ton of BG and the current GC node makes you intercept and oh boy is that annoying af with the worsening AI
To start, the AI now loves to dash back and hold block. Like no matter what they just won’t go for your intercepts, they’ll just stand there and dash back, again and again. It’s so annoying and this definitely wasn’t happening as frequently pre-update
I’ll be waiting for ages for them to try and play into me for a light intercept but they’ll do one of two things now. They’ll either hold block and dash back or walk forward and use a light. This was kinda prevalent before but I noticed it’s even worse now
And guess what, they still won’t throw specials a lot of the time. This aspect isn’t as bad but there are so many times now where I’ll try and dash forward and hit their block and they’ll special intercept me. I swear this is happening constantly now. It happened in my last couple BG matches, go to hit their block, they instantly throw their special and nuke you. So much fun
I’ve been noticing some other stuff that YouTubers have experienced that I’ve also had happen. In Lags recent BG stream, the AI dexed his medium and parried his next attack. What even is this at this point? What exactly are we supposed to do?
I had a fight against domino last night where I dashed forward to tap her block because she wouldn’t throw her special. She sidestepped my dash perfectly and countered with a light, into a full combo, chained into a special attack
So now we have:
- Constant special intercepting and refusal to throw it until you dash in
- Dexing out of relics and combos that should have connected and somehow parrying
- The worst one after the update is dashing back and holding block. Dear god this is the most annoying this I’ve ever had to deal with in this game. Dash forward and hit their block? Nah. Do it 3 more times? Still won’t budge. Light intercept? Nah they’ll still stand there. Medium intercept? Don’t try it, they’ll always counter it now
- Perfect sidestepping into intercepts or parries

what's always happened when we try for a dash back light intercept and the AI doesn't fall for it? they get passive and start jogging towards us. it's not new.
It’s hard to compete at a consistent level in battlegrounds when the very nature of every match is inconsistent.
Also this isn’t fully about trying to dash back and light intercept? The immediate combo they now throw is annoying but that was also a small part of a bunch of larger problems. Very cherry-picked argument

I was using titanic against mojo in the aw showcase and everything I started with her heavy. He hits her with a light and dexes before the heavy connects.
What in the msd and fintech is going on with the ai.
Also for ai now throwing a particular special, especially sp1 I see you red skull. It's annoying especially against red skull, doom, any annoying defender basically
And the AI has been growing its side step and wall play skill sets. Get ready to get parried or smacked with the AI pinging itself off the wall too
- stop nodes forcing it
- Redefine intercepting.
For example, If I manage to pick off the AI while it’s freaking walking toward me, that should count as an intercept. If I manage to double dash while the AI is trying to dash back to punish me and get in a hit…that should be an intercept. Basically, any attack that doesn’t result from a parry stun or punishing a heavy/special should be an intercept. Why? Because it’s an opening I forced. If the defender doesn’t want to dash in… then change the definition. Super frustrating with the current meta to create an unorthodox opening, but because the defender wasn’t dashing…. No crit passive.
Maybe that’s an absurd take, but I didn’t make this BS AI. Give us a freaking chance to play the game.

Plus this new WALK OF DEATH is brain-dead moment,
You can't light attack when AI is walking, as it will parry you 100%
You can't do medium attack/dash as it will sidestep
You can't dash back as it will either continue the walk you to corner 😭
Only thing you can do is bait heavy (after taking 4-10 hits on block ofc)
Pre-update
When the AI had a full bar and was blocking if you dashed into them to hit their block you could see them consistently holding the block or letting go and try to walk towards you or start blocking again
Post-Update
(I have seen this happen multiple times) as you dashed in from a distance the ai just let's go of its block and stands idle MID DASH!! Like literally as soon as you dashed in they just let go of their block, this is 100% one of , if not the sole reason behind the special intercept and side step thing, I have noticed this behaviour everytime without fail just before the ai pulls these shenanigans
I understand conspiracy theories that we are making AI deliberately harder in content like Summer of Suffering. They aren't true, every SoS fight has had the same AI profile, but I understand why players might think they are true. Harder AI in Everest content = harder fights = more consumables used = theoretically more money for us, at least in the short term.
However the community should be able to take as step back and realize none of those incentives exist for us in Battlegrounds. In Battlegrounds, the more players play, the better it is for our business. The idea that we would deliberately create a harder or more frustrating AI simply doesn't hold water. We have not, the exact same AI profile is applied to both the VT and GC this season. Any perceived difference is just confirmation bias.
Just to be clear, I'm not saying there are no problems with the AI. I personally believe we have some substantial issues we need to address, and I'm hoping we can communicate them more effectively in the coming months. But I can tell you definitively that we aren't making harder AI profiles to target specific metas.
I was using Ham against FAM and had 9 Porker Poppers and Ant Man relic's Power Stings on him, while FAM was just on 2 bars of power, not close to 3 bars. AI held onto it's Special 2, even though I was running in and trying to bait. That's something it doesn't normally do when there's no damaging consequence. It normally freely throws it's Specials, especially when you run at it.
FAM AI held it's Sp 2 until ALL 9 Porker Poppers and the Power Stings expired.

Right after they expired, it threw it's special.

I've had the same issues with Serpent sometimes. Serpent loves to throw his unblockable specials as soon as he fills that bar of power. But when Power Stings and Porker Poppers are on him, all of that goes out the window, and he'll often hold his specials. I've even put the Taunt on him, and AI still held it's special for a while.
If none of these are possible, you shouldn't have added crit me node at the first place to the discord poll.
