Alliance War automatically adding champs ?

I went to run AQ and it's telling me my champ is in Alliance War defense but our Alliance only runs AQ, we only did Alliance war early up in the year or last year to collect tokens for something after that we haven't touched it in a long time but my champs some how are in the defense line up and I'm not setting them.

    So have you looked at the PLACE HEROES, and if they are in there (ANY of the 3 potential Tier Maps) go ahead and REMOVE THEM (“Leave BattleGroup”) from defense.

    They may have still been assigned to a Defense, for whenever your Ally might choose to run AW in the future.
    Defenders might be “locked into AW Defense” whether or not a war is actually occurring or not (same for whether your Ally is actually enlisting for wars or not).
