Great comment. As men, we tend to internalize and forget to check in both with and on our friends. Thinking that it’s our job to hold it all together, and that it’s not OK to show the cracks behind our walls. But it may be not just “you” doing that it could also be friends you’d never expect.

I’m not one for any of these “acknowledgment” holidays for any reason be it donuts or personal characteristics. But definitely think this is a solid message. Check in on a “strong” friend because one day you might find out they’re suffering more than you know and you might lose that chance to have been that guy.

Take it from somebody who lost a friend who was a husband, father, great colleague and all around good dude because we all thought he had it together and “would be OK”. Had us all fooled unfortunately

I am very sorry for your loss. I had the same thing happen with my big brother and best friend 9 nine years ago. Still haven't completely gotten over the fact that I missed the warning signs and didn't reach out before it was too late. God bless.

So far, I would agree this particular thread has been entirely in bounds. However, I had no idea in which direction this particular thread would go when I originally posted. As to your "anytime something like this gets posted" comment, sure, every time something like this comes up there is always some thoughtful discussion, perhaps even from the majority of posters, but it only takes a few to derail a thread and cause it to be closed or deleted and that's what I was referring to. Stating a particular topic has dangerous side tracks is not a judgment on all posters of the thread, it is a warning about how easy it is for an otherwise productive thread to go awry.

Keep in mind I made no judgment about the thread or the OP. I made a statement about one very specific line of questioning and nothing else. I have no issue with the thread or the OP per se.

Sorry for your loss man. It’s hard **** to deal with and I’m definitely there with that feeling about “missed” warning signs. It’s not on us though, we are just looking for more control over an outcome that was outside of our control to begin with. At least that’s what try to tell myself. All the best in any case. One message to all men out there, don't consider yourself useless or a loser just cuz you can't meet the socially constructed expectations set for men. Most of the society structures men to behave in a extremely specific way, and anyone who don't comply to the traditional norms won't get respect and love. You don't have to be like that. Masculinity is strong, masculinity is based, and the most based thing one can do is living your life in your own terms, not giving a F bout other OPINIONS on how to live YOUR LIFE. Because the so called "incels" Often talk about how it is *insert any slur here* to care about your mental health. They say therapy is fake and men can't cry, and all other age old myths. They subscribe to the patriarchial stereotypes which harm men as well.

Most importantly, they use mens day to ridicule women's day. They say no one cares about men's mental health, men have no privileges etc, but they themselves don't include gay men, fat men, minority men, femboys etc in their men's mental health conversation.
