WTF is up with Dust

In this last update she breaks the game with lag… fights vs her are unplayable. It’s also been an issue reported more than once. This is clearly a bug and part of her defensive prowess relies on this bug. It feels like an exploitative situation but I’ve yet to hear of it being addressed.

Something needs to be done about it. Does anybody know if this is being worked on?

Its mostly device hardware issue, I can never fight a dust so I just ban every dust in BGs I find even tho i have decent counters for her..just not taking chances man.

No issues for me in practice against her on an iPhone 13 Pro.

I run into lag issues sometimes with graphic heavy champs if I’ve been playing for a while without restarting the app. Usually takes 30+ minutes of continuous play for that to happen and I haven’t noticed it as much lately but I’ve also been playing less.

I play with S23 Ultra 512GB.. no problems fighting dust.. I do notice from time to time that the characters look blurry as if there is a dust cloud from all the rapid movement.. this is for other champions too.

I mean that’s 3 rounds of BGs, that’s pretty wild that we have to check device temps and force close the app to fight a champ like dust safely

Iphones MCOC graphics are different than Andriod. That might be the reason. There are few things for example, Magneto's heavies(those waves), ghost phase stuff etc are different in Iphone and Android.

She overheats my phone(iphone 15 pro) on 60fps in one fight.

If i want to use her i need to switch down to 30

It's been fine in OnePlus Nord.
But the duststorm's heavy lag is not worth it.
They made it too heavy on the processor

Different champions have specific issues on specific devices. I used to have one back in the days where 15+ champions would crash the game once they appeared on the screen.

These issues are usually never fixed, or at least not on purpose. Mine wasn't after 3,5 years, for example.

I don’t see any difference between this and when SpiderHam was causing devices to crash costing people in AW. She needs a graphics nerf.

They changed or fixed somthing in both Sandman and Aarkus for Android.
They both lagged the devices and it was ridiculous at the launch.

Dust is same if she gets sandstorm, fights joever, as people can't even input actions.
I come across them quiet often as I play in two devices.

I personally don't get any frame drops. I'm on a midrange device. Nothing phone 1

There have been resource leaks in the game client in the past, and while they do get fixed they tend to reappear at times. When those happen the game client's performance will degrade over time, as memory and other resource leaks basically cause the device to run out of memory. At some point the game client starts swapping resources, usually before it actually runs out of memory, and it is that resource swapping that causes stutters and other apparent lag issues.

It is possible Dust is a higher than average resource utilizing champion, so Dust is more often the thing that tips the client into problems, but it might not be a problem specifically with Dust. The fact that periodic game client resets seems to make the problem go away for some people suggests it is a client problem, and Dust is just the especially fat canary in the cage.

Honestly, before I'm about to do something really important I tend to restart the client these days myself. I don't see the kinds of persistent leak issues I used to see that would cause the client to crash, say, every thirty minutes of arena grinding, but I do see them occasionally and the reset ensures it does not happen while I'm doing something I care about.

I mean that only works if you are suggesting a restart in between each and every BGs match making… and then if that happens mid match then people are just boned. To me that means she’s graphically broken and it’s a borderline exploit if people are ranking her in part because of this.

I've had it happen 3 or 4 times since the update. Seems to happen when she's fighting another resource intensive champ. Her vs Arkus looked like an old stop motion movie yesterday.

No issues with lag on other champs.

    On S23 Ultra

Just now faced dust with sunspot. Even though it should have been a nuke, I got clipped from her sp1. Then her sandstorm triggers and everything goes haywire.

Can't dash back properly, can't dex properly, my phone starts to lag. She goes berserk until her sandstorm ends.

This was not the case until before update which I only did today.

I’ve only ever seen these issues after a substantial amount of play. A single BG match would not come close, so resetting after every BG match would not be warranted. I’ve never done that myself.
