Why everyone new update requires 9gb free?

If you look here it says 8gb free needed and that's for computer, how can a mobile device need more free space than a computer? I think they just ask from the start 9gb because that's just the default requirement, I sended emails to Kabam team with this issue maybe they will fix it, until now I thought because I have a lot of champions and data in my game that's why I need 9gb free but it's not that because I uninstalled the game and I still need that much. And the theory with the game trying to make backup so if the update crush can have a game version to go back also drops, so I think I will thank you all for your time and help, and just wait for Kabam to solve this issue, maybe they just add 1gb per year, and I think after a few weeks they will ask in 2025, 10gb free, it's crazy.

10 years anniversary = 10gb free memory required. Happy anniversary!

Do you have a Google Pixel?
No I have Motorola Moto e7 Plus.
Do you have a both internal and external storage? As in a memory card for extra storage?
  • BloodyRoseBloodyRose Member Posts: 228

This is on my other phone with Android 13, I see in this version they just show me the total amount of how much I need free memory, I don't need to calculate anymore, on my tablet it's the same, this is not a device problem, can be a Google Play problem.

Android OS is a PITA. I tested software for over 25 years on Windows, *nix, and Mac OS and about 5 of those testing on iOS and Android. I absolutely hated working on Android. The fact that Google has different versions for different devices, and sometimes also different versions per carrier for the same device made dev and testing a nightmare.

To fix most install issues on Android we would wipe our devices and reinstall everything.

Just internal memory. But you can add an micro SD card if you want the phone have memory slot.

It's asking me the same thing and it's the first time it's happened. It's insane.

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't the file size so large because you need to download essentially an entire new version of MCOC and then it only replaces/keeps whatever new changes were made which is why the required space:actual download size is so different

Hi, it's like this for more than a year, I think you had until now lots of free memory on your phone that's why you just realized this now, because until now you didn't get the message free the space.

No because of this, if you were right, at the total app memory on my phone must be written 9gb because let's say I have a old account with lots of data, but it's just written 2.5gb, so no even with all my data isn't so big the game.

This is what I've been trying to get people to realize about Android and MCOC for years.

I think Kabam, let the default at 9gb free and that's all, maybe they did this because if you have an older phone like one with 2gb ram the phone must have a lot of free memory, so the app can work properly. Kabam got many complaints in the past about the game running slow, and about internet crushes on the game. I think some people got angry because the spend money on the game and they had expired items and unclaimed items because of this, so that's why kabam made this change, as you can see the app can run on older devices also, so instead of recreating the app Kabam just keep the app with low system requirements so many people can use it, and have more audience, that's why we are forced to have 9gb free memory for the people with old devices.

Ram and storage aren't the same thing if that's what you're implying.

Also, nothing else you said is correct either.

There's no technical reason why the game would need more storage on older phones. Mobile phones typically don't support virtual memory in that way, and resource swapping is slow enough that if the game client was doing that a lot it would become unplayable (which is, in fact, how it becomes unplayable when memory leaks don't get addressed).

There aren't really different versions for different phones. There's the iOS version, the Android version, and the PC/Steam version. There isn't an "older Android phone" version of the game client as far as I'm aware.

I'm not talking of a different game version I'm talking about a game that won't step up to a new version because of the money grab, they won't change the game entirely because will become unplayable for older phones with low specifications, after 10 years the game design could be much better, and also I miss the Doctor Strange first movie period when the game really got a beautiful update, someone really tried hard to make a beautiful design for the game back then, now they don't.

https://youtu.be/ZO2G0--aeQU this is how the loading page looked back in 2016 when Doctor Strange was released, I never see they to put effort into graphic design like that now, they just change a little bit the game every month, they should redesign the entire game when a new marvel movie or tv show it's released, if they want new players, this game by now could have easily a step up at least at 4gb minimum system requirement and a lot of new real updates, not just the old system, it's like that because like every other company they support the new players and not the old ones, they just want fast money. It's sad a company cares just about money when they become rich. It's a illness an obsession. No one cares anymore about the art of graphic design. That's passion and isn't related with money at all.

I don't understand your complaint. In at least three different senses.

First of all, Kabam has actually continuously improved upon the game client, not just in terms of the stuff under the hood, but also in terms of its appearance. In fact, many players complain about things changing appearance or how they work, because they get comfortable with how they used to work. Nevertheless, Kabam has updated the game client in lots of ways to "modernize" it compared to games of similar nature.

Second, I don't know what this has to do with your issues regarding space. What you're talking about are cosmetic changes. They would have no direct bearing on how much space the game took up or how it updated itself. None of that would affect your current issues at all.

And third, and most bizzarely, part of the reason why Kabam doesn't do "step ups" of the game client that require higher system resources very often is because that orphans existing players. If they did that, you yourself would not be playing the game anymore. You have a four year old version of a low end phone family. Do you think you'd be on the hardware supported list of any game company whose philosophy was cutting edge game development?

I only spent my time on this issue because I thought there was technical merit to it. But if this is going to turn into a misguided and misinformed rant, I do have better things to spend my time on.

I like how you feel the need to put ideas in people's hearts and heads just because you think other person philosophy isn't important, you should be an influencer, because just vain people act like that. This is not about the game anymore it's about Kabam treating the players like garbage, and not responding at emails, also writing solved immediately on any unsolved mysteries and problems of the game. You should get a job to become rich, I'm already rich at heart.
I agree with DNA. I was offering to help you understand the technical stuff going on but you either aren't understanding what we are saying and getting confused or just don't want to.

What you are experiencing in regards to space is specifically an Android operating system issue, not an issue with the game. These new "problems" having to do with design and "Step up" and whatever are nothing to do with your 9GB issue.

I suggest you erase your phone and reinstall only the essential things and the game and drop this issue.

Android OS is a PITA. I tested software for over 25 years on Windows, *nix, and Mac OS and about 5 of those testing on iOS and Android. I absolutely hated working on Android. Touche!! I used to be a huge Android proponent a few years back and hated anything put out by Apple. And of course as you said, each carrier came out with their own ROMs which included all the **** bloatware. I used to freeze these unwanted apps and everytime an update came out, these apps had to unfreezed before the update could be installed. Beta tested a few releases and absolutely hated it.
At the end of it, as much as I hated Apple products, I decided to switch to Apple for one and just one reason. They have a tight leash over the OS releases and absolutely no friggin bloatware pre- packaged with the updates. Haven't looked back since iphone 6....

This is not about the game anymore

I'm pretty certain now it never was.

I mean, I'm still curious enough to try to figure this out. One day someone else might legitimately want to know. But I will probably not make it as much of a priority.

The last time someone quoted anything to me about MCOC revenue, they linked to a Google search. The first article was an out of date and obviously flawed calculation by an industry monitoring company.

The second was a forum article written by me.

The poster you were replying to was trying to correct you about the fact that Kabam is a studio that is wholly owned by Netmarble. That acquisition happened back in 2017. Kabam has no say over how the revenue of MCOC is spent. A fact that seems to have escaped you while you were busy lighting your torches.

Meanwhile, the poster you quote was a poster that had a lot of enthusiasm back then, but highly incomplete awareness of how games like this work or are monetized. You'll note, if you bothered to read, that the last reply to that thread is from me. I communicated with that poster a few times back then, and while the post you're linking to sounds like an article written by an experienced and knowledgeable person, that is really just that poster's writing style. They used to write in a semi-authoritative way, but would often end with things like "unless I'm wrong." In this case, they were off the mark, which is why I advised back then to focus on the subject of monetization models and not mechanisms like IAP, because those are incidental.

Kabam makes money on Marvel popularity, like Elvis made money on African-Americans music.
