6* are becoming obselete in 2025?

We have 290x 6* and 179x 7* champions

For the remaining 111 champions, is there a schedule to release them as 7* over time or are they joining Quake and Magik in a retirement home?

I'm pretty sure they will release every 6 star locked champion as a 7 star once 7 star rank 5s are added. We have Serpent and Onslaught as 7 stars, there's no reason that CGR and Human Torch won't be fine for 7 star releases at that point. The only exception to this is Hercules, who will probably only be a 7 star once 8 star rank 3 champions are a thing.

Yeah, six stars are useful in all current content, and I know I will be using them for at least the rest of act 9.

That's not at all what I said. For that matter, if they came out with 6* content tomorrow, a good number of people would be complaining they weren't "wasting Resources on useless 6*s". The rest of us would be doing the content.

6* Red Mags cheesed the 9.1.6 boss, and also Cassie in the AoA challenge.
Unless they release him as a 7*, which they won't because he's too broken, Red Mags will always be relevant against metal.

Not obsolete yet but that's only because meta champs don't exist as 7 stars. The usefulness of 6 stars is rapidly declining .....wayyyyyy faster than 5 stars did when 6 stars came out.

6* are becoming irrelevant in BGs and AW defense, at least in the upper levels. They are still very viable everywhere else in the game.

imo a lot of 7 stars of new champs shouldnt have been released . every new 7 star should be released atleast after an year delay because there is no incentive to go for the 6 star . People may disagree with me but i feel like a lot of old 6 star deserve 7 star before the newly released ones . for e.g. bwcv, stealth spidey, ibom, iceman, red guardian,etc . But this cannot be implemented right now as it will get a lot of backlash .

I don't think they will be completely obsolete in 2025, but their relevance is dropping steadily

6*s will never become obsolete. The Ascension system was put in place specifically to prevent that, and 6*s will always be an important milestone in progression. While top MCOC players might not get much mileage out of their 6*s now, the rest of the playerbase still has plenty of use for them. I myself am a Valiant with 3 7* r3s, yet I still use my 6*s every day, whether it be for questing, BGs, AW and AQ

Only if your taking them to r4/r5. R1-r3 use mats that's 7* don't use. Also, use rank up gems. Might as well.

They are losing relevancy for valiants slowly, but they won't become fully obsolute till 8* or maybe r6 7 stars

The ascension system was put in place to prolong their relevance, not to prevent their irrelevance. As your roster grows you will use 6* champs less and less, though there are still champs that are just too good not to use at least for awhile longer.

Ascension may bring your 6* in line with the stats of a 7r2, but the challenger rating still puts them at a noticeable disadvantage in fights. No matter what, they'll always have their utility, so that's a positive. As of now, I am only ascending the champs that aren't released in higher rarities, even if they aren't at 6r5 yet.

The 6*'s that are attainable as 7*'s are losing relevance for the end game players and whale accounts. The 6* champs that aren't avail as 7*'s are still useful on offense/defense in certain metas and for lower tier accounts.

FGL said they were still relevant as "an important milestone in progression." There will always be players who are still progressing through the game and still building roster and thus for them 6* champs will still be relevant to them. At some point, sure, a rarity becomes so low and progression speed so high that it literally becomes irrelevant to progression. 3* champs are basically that now: even new progressing players might only invest in a few of them on their way to 4* and 5* champs because they progress to the point where 5* champs become accessible so quickly. But it will be a very long time before 6* champs reach that stage.

In terms of individual rank up decisions, 6* champs are becoming moot for a larger percentage of the end game community, although they aren't quite there yet for most of them. But in the context of the OP's original question regarding whether Kabam intends to release most of the 6* champs as 7* champs, 6* relevancy to the game as a whole means it is still business as usual for rarity releases. Every champ is still going to be released as a 3* and 4* and 5* and 6* and eventually 7* by default, absent some explicit decision by the dev team to not release individual champs specifically.

For myself personally, I wouldn't say 6* champs are completely irrelevant in terms of chasing them down: I would still like to have all the champs as 6* if possible, because you never know when one will be useful for something, and 6* champs can still be *used* even in end game content. But in terms of rank up decisions, my priorities are 7* first, just plain hold the resources second, and then use expiring resources on the best 6* option available. Since those resources are not generally used much for 7* rank ups, I usually try to get most interesting 6* champs up to rank 2 or 3 just to hold them there in case I decide to rank them up for something. But increasingly, that doesn't happen much.

On my main account, when I open a 6* Nexus I’d rather choose an sig 200 champ over new champ because the 7* shards mean more to me at this point. (I may regret this as have skipped Ironheart a few times and she seems great for a lot of the AOA style content).

6* I already gave ranked up, I still use in lots of content e.g. 6* Void, 6* Red Mags, 6* Hulkling. But unless I have a rank up gem, I don’t remember the last time I ranked up a 6* champion. If I pull a new 6* champion even if I don’t have them as a 7* I’m putting any rank up resources into them. I feel I already have so many options from my 7* roster, it’s going backwards ranking up a 6*. Unless there is a very specific piece of content that requires a niche champion I can’t see me ranking up a 6*

Now on my alt account, which only has 3x 7R2 champions, I’ll still rank up any good 6*. That roster needs to grow! New accounts steam roll through the game so quickly you don’t have the same level of champion acquisition, so the number of options I have on the account is far more limited. So need to rank up everyone.

I've been trying to get a 7* Onslaught for months, have opened like 50 7* crystals and nothing.
So I'm just going to R5, sig 200, and ascend my 6* Onslaught.
Waste of resources?
This whole game is a waste of resources (time, money, etc.).
Play for today and enjoy the game.
It's not a 401K account that needs to grow for the next 25 years.

I mean hyper meta 6*s will still be around by the end of 2025, but honestly there aren’t a ton left in competitive modes. I don’t really run into Doom, Kitty, Herc in BG anymore unless they’re significantly below my progression, or at the low end of the valiant level. They’ve done been outpaced by 7* R3s, whether the champ was as broken or not.

Now this month most people are going to get their first (and possibly second) 7* R4. 6* are toast in competitive matches

Some are worthy of ranking,..but not with mats imo.
I just wish they would balance it a bit and give away more 3-4 and 4-5 rank up gems in monthly content to give people some incentive too.
At the very least for Valiants.

I've never sworn of Ranking any Rarity, and I never will. Mind you, I focus mostly on 7*s and some 6*s depending on what I'd like to work on. However, if I have the time or if I'm in between major Rank-Ups, I'll work on my 2s, 3s, 4s, and 5s. It all contributes to total account progression in my opinion.

I still use a bunch of great 6r5a (hulkling/CGR/Kingpin etc) but wont rank a 6* at all unless I need a specific champ for specific task.

I had to rank 6* odin for a carinas which sucks but the payoff was there.

I have 12 r3's, enough materials for 4 more.

In PvP content 7* are king but 6r5a can do all solo content currently in game.

It's always personal how relevant a champ is.

Currently a 6* CGR is doing a lot more than all my 7*'s combined (Hawkeye, Bishop, IM Hulk, Photon, Sable).

For endgame players it's gonna be hella different too.

Overall 6*'s have their place in the game as helpers to lesser or newer players and to be very solid champs from then till they reach major parts of the game like how in the Gwenpool Bubble Bauble Event from like 2022? I got Spider-Man 2099 and he PUSHED my account a strong leg.

So 6*'s aren't losing worth however their means of use in game/function is different
