6*s will never become obsolete. The Ascension system was put in place specifically to prevent that, and 6*s will always be an important milestone in progression. While top MCOC players might not get much mileage out of their 6*s now, the rest of the playerbase still has plenty of use for them. I myself am a Valiant with 3 7* r3s, yet I still use my 6*s every day, whether it be for questing, BGs, AW and AQ The ascension system was put in place to prolong their relevance, not to prevent their irrelevance. As your roster grows you will use 6* champs less and less, though there are still champs that are just too good not to use at least for awhile longer.

I still believe that there is an "ascension rank 1/1" screen whenever you ascend a champion for a reason. I'm just holding out hope that they release additional ascension ranks so that 6*s will still be able to maintain some form of relevance in the game
Anyway 6* rank 5 ascended champs are pegged to about 90% health and attack of a 7* rank 3 6* champs enjoy easy sig 200 as their only advantage over 7*
Anyway 6* rank 5 ascended champs are pegged to about 90% health and attack of a 7* rank 3 6* champs enjoy easy sig 200 as their only advantage over 7* The last time I looked at Ascension numbers, a typical 7* R3 had about 23% more attack and health than an Ascended 6* R5. There were some champions that did not follow that power curve exactly, but all the ones I looked at fell within a few percentage points of 20%. I'm unaware of a champion whose 6* R5 ascended attack value is within 10% of its 7* R3 attack value.

What would be the point of higher rarities then? They could simply just keep adding a level to 6* when they want the game to progress.

All I'm saying is that Kabam could keep adding higher rarities while still maintaining the relevance of older rarities through the Ascension. Of course, they could include things like gates in endgame content to make sure newer rarities are always relevant, but that doesn't mean that 6*s will be rendered to the point of obsoleteness

It will be obsolete soon. I don't even bother to rank up any 6 star champ I get nowadays.. waste of resources. All of my best 6 stars were already fully ranked up anyway.
