So this is technically feasible, but you would have to 100% necro, finish a saga, or buy champ selectors on july 4th to get the two 7*s you need for this to happen. Very possible, and honestly a fascinating challenge, but it would take a lotttt of waiting around

This is pretty much impossible. I'm trying to think of how you can possibly do it, and I'm really not seeing any way to do it.
It is possible. There is nothing you need to reach Valiant that exists solely in crystals.
However, it would be extremely difficult without spending. With spending, you just have to wait until the right offers come along; the main bottleneck will be champions. Without spending, my guess is this is still possible but this might take years.
The free to play path probably revolves around grinding arena like a mad man; you get three and four star champions from milestones, and you can eventually work your way up to earning 5* champions from rank rewards. With enough units you can eventually buy your way into the right unit sales that contain champions; things like J4, banquet, and other such sales sometimes contain champions and champion selectors. Of course, a major pain will be being unable to open arena crystals for the extra units.
There are also champions that are earned directly in some content, but there are a very limited supply of those.
That’s it for day 1, went all in on Colossus. He’s gonna carry through act 3 and likely act 4. Also made an alliance if anyone else doing the challenge wants to join.

There is absolutely no reason to do this ludicrous thing except to be able to say I did this ludicrous thing. If it was me, and I was going to put this much effort into it, I would make sure my run was absolutely clean. That’s just me, but I would like to say “I didn’t open a single crystal” instead of “I didn’t open any crystals, except for these but they don’t really count.”

Since you opened a weekly crystal and the one that gave you a 3* Iron Man, I would just restart. You’re at the very beginning so you’re really not losing much progress, might as well have a clean run.
This is a really interesting challenge that would take an extreme amount of patience. It’s not going to be completed any time soon, but if you don’t mind waiting a while and keeping this as a long-term project than I would say it’s a pretty cool idea to pursue.

That’s very true, if you’re gonna mess up in first day best to just start over rather than going 3 years and it being all almost clean run, best to have no regrets about it.
Also, I wonder if Kabam keep a log of how many crystals each summoner opens, I know there’s some data they send to certain emails about fights and hours played. Because that would serve as proof of an authentic run.

Well, I decided to spend $2 on a 4 stars she hulk to speed up the first few acts, but we still on track and the crystals are building rapidly.
Definitely no buying platinum tracks or directly buying 7 star champions.
Halfway through Act4, should have Maestro down soon and the conqueror title.
