Battleground Matchmaking Algorithm

I need some clarity on how the matchmaking works in Battlegrounds 27. I consistently finish Vibranium 5 every season but always get reset to Platinum 2/3 at the start of the next one. The problem is that my matchups feel heavily one-sided—I’d say 95 out of 100 opponents I face have a significantly higher hero rating than me.

For context:

I have only 1 six-star R5

I don’t have any seven-star R2

I have very few champions above 20K hero rating

Yet, I keep running into opponents with multiple seven-star R2s and a much stronger roster. It makes climbing extremely difficult.

I was under the impression that matchmaking within a tier should be more balanced, taking into account prestige or roster strength, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Can someone explain how the backend matchmaking algorithm works? Does it purely factor in previous season performance, or does it also consider hero strength? Is there any way to get fairer matchups?

I'm pretty sure it's random matchmaking now (based on rank) so a cav player can face a valiant.
Itll be very hard to push right now as all the big accounts have been sent back down to diamond or plat. You'll have to wait a week so that most of the big accounts have had time to move into GC so you get easier matchmaking in vt.

Whatever tier you are in, you can face anyone else in that tier regardless of any other factors. It is the fairest form of matchmaking available in the current BGs setup. If you only matched accounts your size you would have an easier time progressing than those larger accounts. If you want to get further than them, then you need to beat them.

With only a single 6* r5, you may be pushing too hard to get to that Vibranium each season.
(which is OK if you want to, but realize you’re constantly facing much stronger teams, that maybe don't push as much or play a little more casual that yourself)

So at start of every season, you drop down 8 levels below where you finished prior one at.

When you drop from Vibranium, EVERY OTHER player in your Vibranium at end of season ALSO drops down to same Platinum as you to start next season.

So right out of the gate, you are still facing those same stronger accounts than you are.

If you don’t start playing full speed at beginning of seasons, you can instead find yourself maybe matching against some occasional lower ones who were BELOW you at start and have since moved up in the first week or 2 of new seasons (while waiting for those stronger than you to have moved up beyond what Level you would match against).

You can be matched against anyone who is in the same current Level as yourself. (NOT based on roster size, strength, deck, or anything. At least for the Victory Track, (until you reach Gladiator Circuit, which then matches versus relative G.C. standings, etc)

It's random, and more higher rated people are playing now because they buffed the rewards in VT people. Three people in my alliance that have a higher hero rating than me are playing now and haven't played the last four seasons.
