Yes, it violates the TOS, but this is highly specific to this game.
I don't blame people for not necessarily knowing that it's not ok to pay someone to advance in the game for you.

So again, not saying he shouldn't be banned. But just explain it to him. Mocking him for not treating this game like a career or school or their life says more about the mockers than OP. In my opinion....

Have you read TOS on all apps or websites that you logged in or created accounts on? It’s very easy to make a mistake not knowing all the violations possible. OP may not have known it’s a violation to pay someone to play the game. Not saying they should be unbanned but it could be an honest mistake. Just advise them not to do it and create another account. Why be mean about it.

There’s no need to get the TOS involved in this conversation. The OP paid a person to advance for him in the game. That is, by any definition of the word, cheating. Cheating is a behavior that should be made fun of, scorned, and punished at every turn.

Getting conned is when I pay for a legitimate service and I get cheated.

If I pay someone to steal something and they run with my money, I'm a thief that got conned. Which is what happened here
