Alliance Wars used to be a balanced mix of planning, strategy, and teamwork. It wasn't perfect, but it offered a sense of progression and competitiveness. However, with the recent changes—where entire lanes have been replaced by a single, high-HP defender—that balance has taken a serious hit.

Facing a champion with 10+ million HP on a key node, with no viable counter available in your roster, turns the experience from a strategic challenge into a frustrating dead end. There’s no alternative path, no way to adapt—just a high-risk fight that can sink an entire battle group’s chances.

The most frustrating part? I play in a G1 / Plat 6 alliance, which isn’t “elite” by any stretch, yet we’re expected to deal with this level of stress every 2-3 days, for rewards that barely justify the effort.

It feels punishing. Not everyone has the perfect roster to counter every nightmare setup, especially with defender placement now being heavily optimized to exploit the new format. A single defender can rack up 30, 40, even 50+ kills simply because the opponents don’t have the right tools.

Compare this to Nightmare Raids—yes, they're hard too, but they last a week, and the rewards at least feel worth the effort. Alliance Wars, on the other hand, feel like a constant cycle of stress, potions, and disappointment with little to show for it.

This isn’t about avoiding challenge—it’s about proportionality. Right now, the effort-to-reward ratio just feels off, and the fun that used to come from coordination and counterplay is getting lost in the grind.

Here’s hoping Kabam takes a closer look and brings some balance back to the mode.

For me personally, what sucks is that PC version has a lot of issues with input latency, but that isn't necessarily fault of the season, tho it makes it feel much worse since I can't use my phone on important fights like this where I could lag because of some champions (*cough cough* Dust and some others *cough cough*)

Most fights are glorified SQ fights,
Failed experiment, hopefully old war format returns.

No viable counters? These nodes are as bare bone as you can get. They all have counters to every champion you could place.

I will say there are definitely a lot of counters for these nodes and honestly one thing that I will say this challenge did was that It made me use my 6* Rank 4 Baron Zemo, and honestly I liked that, he has been pretty good in this challenge so far, countering many of the nodes.

I need to see OPs roster if to confrim that they don't have one proper counter for a simple node and defender consider their alliance is in Gold 1. This isn't new account with only a few champs. Show up your entire 7 and 6 star roster.

I understand why people prefer the old format, and if forced to choose, I might opt for the traditional mode.

But, I have to admit, there’s a fun new dynamic created by the fact there’s only ten fights. In my ally, we have a really robust conversation going on about every fight on the map. The volume of chat is probably the same, but instead of 50 fights that might get some discussion, we’ve only got 10 to worry about so we can talk about all of them. It’s cool.

    Yup, same here.
The fights might only last a couple of minutes, but people are discussing counters, strategies, practicing, etc.
As we get further into the season it might become stale with nothing new to discuss, so we'll see about that...

Can we make were after 20 deaths the defender is automatically down. I don’t want to demand my guys fight a fight 100 plus times that’s not healthy for the game. If we suck we don’t deserve to have to do a fight 100 times. No healthy game should want there players suffering like that.

You could demand that your guys bring counters to fights instead of just whoever they want.
They did but unsurprisingly nova double intercept didn’t go well and not willing to spend to fully heal so we shouldn’t be forced to chip away while trying to double intercept an uncooperative nova

Hate on me if you want, but I'm not a fan of this format. We've won both Wars so far, but I don't care for amped up fights that are end-game level. Not every aspect of the game needs to be 20-minute Fights. Personal opinion.

Not a fan of this format either but the fights aren't anything different than normal aw fights as long as you bring counters that utilise the force charges.

We've found in the majority of fights they're actually done quicker than in normal aw style.
I just spent 30 minutes taking down a Thing on Prowess. Meh. Lol

Whom did you use? Was it the nullify, prevent with AAR etc?

Poor planning on my part. I used Herc. He's immune to Nullify either way so options are limited.

The defender and nodes are not the issues for the New AW, it's the fact that people don't read the nodes so they can bring the proper counter. I know this cause I had a hard time taking down silk with Onslaught and Kushala since I didn't read the nodes. I was able to one shot Serpent, Bullseye and took 3 revives for Entranchess so I thought how hard can Silk be. After dying with Onslaught I switch to Kushala and did very little damage before realizing that the nodes doesn't help me with my attackers against her. I had to use like 20 revives to finally take her down since the rest of my alliance doesn't usually do war. So it's not that it's hard at all, it's that you will need to read the nodes and pick the right counters before going in.

I can adapt. I just don't care for this format myself.

    Oh come on now 😅

The nodes actually very helpful if you play into it. Fights go faster than normal AW fights.

Now that I look into it, Thing is a very tricky placement on that fight. You'll need a tech that can invalidate prowess like Iron Man or someone who can apply Cowardice

So Sentinel also works well on that specific fight. Or Omega Sentinel. Very good option

If it was node 1, you needed a tech champ to invalidate since Thing is immune to nullify or stagger.
