I'm so confused by the prices. Considering that it's just a bunch of emotes and an Incursions crystal, it at least doesn't matter too much in the grand scheme of things. But like...what's the thinking here? An Odin gives you 700 Loyalty and an emote costs 12K, so that's almost 20 Odins. Even as someone who has occasionally bought an Odin here and there during a sale, there's no chance I'm ever going to reach those kinds of numbers. I mean, if I bought an Odin at every sale during the year, it would still take me maybe five years to even get an emote. That just seems crazy to me.
And that's just thinking of buying the highest-priced stuff. I thought that this would be a way for lower-spenders to maybe earn something if we bought stuff continuously throughout the year - let's say the Sigil every month, or platinum passes - but I would have to buy 69 platinum passes to get an emote. The Sigil doesn't even seem to state any Loyalty gains so I don't know if that even counts at all.

The only thing I can think is that the webstore will offer loyalty point bonuses on July 4–otherwise, this makes little sense because the value appears to be wildly disproportionate to the “cost.”
If there isn’t a multiplier effect on the new loyalty webstore currency for July 4 deals, my broader question is why devote resources to this kind of change at all? Are there not other things in game that could be addressed, updated or debugged in lieu of creating an exclusive and low value webstore currency?

Don’t ask intelligent questions They’ll come at you saying “different teams”
This game has gone downhill with all this ridiculous monetization. Who in their right mind would spend money on this? This feels like a rush to cash grab before a company goes under. Change in leadership meant change in common sense.

Adding these loyalty rewards is a completely different situation. Clearly no one is going to spend the absurd amounts of money required to get things that are ultimately useless. Yes, whales will have special bragging rights with a couple emojis, but this is also something Kabam is giving them for free for money they were already going to spend. Overall, this loyalty thing is useless, dumb, and wasted the time of whoever put it together, but it doesn't fit in with monetization conversation.

Asking who would spend just to get the rewards is like asking who would fly hundreds of thousands of miles all over the place just to get a free first class flight. The answer is: no one, because that's not the purpose of the program. The rewards in the store are loyalty rewards for people who already spend, just like the frequent flier programs are for people who already fly. I recently booked a first class round trip flight on an airline where had I chosen to use miles it would have cost 400,000 miles. That represents almost ten years of travel for me. These kinds of loyalty program exchange rates are not uncommon, because these aren't real prices. They are redemptions for things you're already doing, and would do with or without the programs in place.
This is not a cash grab because no one is going to spend $4200 just to get a crystal, or for that matter just to get an emote. Kabam isn't going to be making significantly more money because of this program. They are rewarding people who already spend, and maybe making it a little more attractive for spenders who currently use in-app purchase to consider the slightly less convenient option of using the web store instead.
Someone would have to be a complete idiot to look at this program and think cash grab: Kabam is trying to get people to spend thousands of dollars they ordinarily wouldn't spend to get those rewards. It sounds stupid because it is stupid because no one is going to do that, nor does Kabam intend anyone to do that.

Is it? Suppose you wanted to make the webstore more attractive to the majority of players who currently use the in-app purchase mechanism, but you didn't want to add too much bonus stuff or units or whatever that would have a significant impact on the game economy. How would you do that?

That is a good question, but I think emotes would be like at the bottom of the list.

You give a free sticker for $200 instead of nearly $2,000. It's not the quality of the freebie, it's the absurdity of the valuation of those freebies. And maybe you also add to your "loyalty" system a pathway for players that don't spend but are loyal to get these things too. They really can't let players that login every day for 86 week get a free emote? I get what they were after, it just lacks all common sense.
And before we go down that path, I am a moderate spender (sigil, monthly units, tracks, occasional offers), so this isn't a FTP crying about PTP advantages (and these aren't advantages anyway).
only spenders are classed as "LOYAL" , those un loyal free players best kick rock's, nothing to see here. So spend to show you're loyalty, well there are plenty of very loyal players who have never been able to spend for many reasons, surely they are just as loyal ?

Equating an emote or incursions crystal to first class airfare…

I was thinking more along the lines of Michael Scott's pride and joy over finding his hot towel in his first class seat when in reality it was probably a used moist towelette. Hopefully there's enough Office fans in here for me to say that lol

I mean, why would anyone defend this? Yes, make it like $200, and update the emotes or something every few months. Or rotate them. Are emotes and pfps now consider threats to the game economy? I think most of us don't even care about these items, but are just kinda repulsed by the logic/motivation behind this new "feature". And concerned about this being a paradigmatic example of the direction in which the game is heading.

I concur. I don't care about these items. Incursions crystals are meh and also easy to earn. Emotes really don't have any value, but I understand some collectors like them. In a world where the first thing I do in a BGs match is mute the opponent, they hold no value for me. I don't have any concern over missing these items, and I'm not upset that big spenders will get them. It really gives them nothing that I don't have.
They hyped up (though not really "hype") this cool new loyalty program. We knew money would be involved, because why wouldn't it, but we also fairly assumed that players that don't spend may get a special benefit for being loyal in their own way. But then Kabam determined that their view of loyalty has a starting price of $1,700 for a digital sticker. That's the issue at hand here.
Spenders are not the only loyal players out there. Yes, the game needs spenders so there's people to run the game; but it also needs players that don't spend so there's people to play the game. It is an insult to non-spenders to say they don't get anything for their own loyalty when they are an important part of this games past, present and future.

At least update the damn Incursion crystal
Wow all that waiting and anticipation and everyone is disappointed.
How about loyalty for us who spend in the past?
Like the milestones that you guys put now for “future” purchases with this new ”loyalty” point system just shows how out of touch you guys are..
