Stop rewarding 'Pausing' players in BG 🙄🙄

Look at this behavior. Guy pauses at start of the fight and wins fight one without lifting a finger. Does the same in fight two. Third one he has an advantage and succeeds in defeating me. Why on earth would I play the game when incompletence, doing absolutely nothing and underhanded tactics are continuously rewarded in the game??

Make this a win for me and take this guy's point. Like what man?? Are we jokers sitting here and taking on all the frew damage champs and metas while these guys think they are smart??

I dont care if someone out skills me or outdrafts me but this is absolute nonsense

I don't pause at all. I actually think pausing the entire fight is unsportsmanlike. But he brings up a salient point. You can't just make up a metric and say everyone who fits the metric "deserves" to lose. Who are you to decide the metric? Someone's subjective opinion will have to be chosen to decide this, because there is no clear cut obvious dividing line of what everyone will agree is unsportsmanlike and what everyone will agree is not. When you say "if a player gets zero hits they deserve to lose" that's obvious but useless: everyone will just hit once and then pause. Or twice. Or five times. Whatever metric you come up with, players will try to limbo just under it. Whatever metric you decide, there will be people just under it and other players just over it, and you will have to justify why these people automatically lose but those people who did almost exactly the same thing don't.

This is why sportsmanship is so difficult to police, and why in the absence of clear cut rules defining it it isn't even a good idea to ask Kabam to try to enforce it. You run into two problems. The first is you're asking them to pick a subjective criteria most people won't actually agree to and codify that into the rules. The second is you're presuming the devs are the kind of people who would actually change the rules of the game to satisfy the whims of a small minority of players who just don't like something. Both are not good at all.

When my opponent and I realised both are noobs, the temptation to pause round 3 is just … urgh …

Maybe the strategy is to play it such the opponent thinks they have a good chance to obtain more points than game pause.

Pausing or not, BG is a mess with no easy solution. You have giant accounts camping in VT, but you also have high accounts just coming into BG for the first time. What can we do besides stop playing BG?

If you consider that pausing for the duration of the entire fight is both poor sportsmanship AND a time suck maybe consider the following.

1) Penalty for running out the clock
- 1000 points if you start a match and run out the clock drafting a team and then run out the clock picking attackers and defenders.
- These are the boneheads that put the device down and let the game automatically draft the champs after 25 seconds all 4 rounds, and then auto pick the attacker and defender after 15 seconds each fight. Total time wasted when they do this is 160 seconds. That's 3 minutes wasted before you even get to fight.
- Maybe consider detecting input, as well. If you at least PICK a champ and then let the clock run out then no penalty? There could be a legit reason you need to run the clock down to prepare for the fights.

2) Penalty for pausing
- 2000 points if you pause at least 20 seconds. Additional -1000 for every 10 seconds pause. The system should aggregate the total pause time in case people pause/unpause to cheat
- There are reasonable excuses for pausing during a fight, however, considering a match is 120-130 seconds, you should be penalized for pausing longer than X seconds. Let's say you are amazing and take out your defender in 15 seconds each fight, pausing 2 full fights wasted about 3 minutes 30 seconds.

3) Automatic forfeit if no input detected for 2/3 fights
- If you don't actually fight then the match is automatically forfeit
- If you aren't actually going to play then you should be penalized

4) Factor forfeits into seeding for next season
- Forfeits should be weighted lower when factoring where you are seeded.
- For each forfeited match, consider either the base hero rating OR summoner prestige of the account that forfeited. For example,
-- if I win because a higher value account forfeits and "gifts" me a win, that win should be valued less when seeding me in the next season.
-- if you win because you forfeited against a lower value account and "gift" me a win, that win should be valued less when seeding you in the next season.
-- figuring higher/lower should be flexible, maybe a 20% differential in base hero rating or summoner prestige?

The numbers are of course just spitballing, but they would have to be high enough to discourage this behavior.

Nah dude see you are falling on that stupid speech that everything can be punished with no margin of error. Recent events should have taught you better.
The run out the clock because its "idiots who put their phones down"? You got no idea how many times I had the loading wheel yesterday and the game went from 6 seconds left to 0 and auto drafted my team. Should I started a match punished cause the game lagged?
The rest has been talked to death. Matchmaking is what it is.

It seems like other players are facing "Pausers" way more than I do. I think I face like only 1-3 a season and I have won like 90% of the time. To me "Pausers" aren't a big problem but I do wish I would face them more often, this would help me rank higher than I would. If I know ahead of time they are pausing, it would be a huge bonus. I guess OP and a few others are complaining cause they face them often and just can't seem to get pass 15k in points. Losing will bring out the worst in people, no matter how it is. Losing to players who pause, losing to bigger whale accounts, losing due to the scoring system (KO and no KO) and losing to hackers seems to all fall under the same umbrella, even though it shouldn't. I guess Kabam can't please everyone.

Here's my issue with that.
BGs isn't a contest of who can score more than 15k. It's a contest of who can perform better than the opponent. Within that, there are metrics that measure Points.
Which means if both Players KO, it's a contest of who performed better under 15k.
Someone getting knocked out isn't an excuse for people throwing the fight and defaulting 15k. In fact, someone who doesn't fight at all loses the right to call anyone weak for not doing over 15k because THEY DID NOTHING.
On paper, it seems logical that if you make more than 15k, you win. That's not the point. The point is to make more than your opponent. Point blank, someone who fights their best and loses deserves the win over someone who manipulated the scoring by avoiding fighting at all.

Nah, dude, you. There is a huge difference between putting the phone down for 3-4 minutes and not connecting to the server. In every case where I lost connection to the server during BG the system gave me a forfeit. When I submitted a ticket on that, the reply from support was, "if the client loses connection with the server you are automatically forfeit"

Me... sometimes I win, sometimes I lose against pausers. Depends on the draft. I have an issue with the waste of time. It's 5 minutes or more wasted when we could have been done much sooner.

Once again I ask you, how many times has this happen to you. Why are people getting upset over losing to a players who pause that most likely happens less than 1% of all BG matches. If this was more common I would estatic and take all the easy wins and climb the rank a lot higher. I understand it's unsportmanship but it's not against the rules of the game, Kabam has stated.

Getting lag is not the same as disconnecting. And with your system I would automatically be punished for the system auto picking my draft. At the expense of what? You not wanting to lose time? Nah... I was sympathetic to your initial thoughts. Now after reading all your inputs. Get paused and deal with it.

I don't know about @GroundedWisdom, but I face pausers at least once a day. Earlier this week someone with a deck full of a couple r4 and all r3 of various sig against my mostly r1s and 6r5s. One match I scored under 1000 because I got creamed so bad by their defender. I lost in 10 seconds and had to wait out 120 seconds for the pauser that could have played the game and beat my defender in 10 seconds.
