Prestige has nothing to do with roster Depth

Exactly as the title states. Prestige is an arbitrary number assigned to a champion almost at random. There is literally nothing more to what it is or represents. Nothing. Roster depth is a concept which is supposed to reward having a breadth of champions to tackle challenges and has everything to do with a champions KIT. Crucible rewarded roster depth. Prestige gating rewards ranking champions… based on their prestige. Karolina is better than surfer in every conceivable way yet if kabam was to be believed (or anyone who repeats this nonsense), ranking surfer represents achieving greater roster depth given his placement in the prestige chart.

No. Prestige gating is meant to do one thing: hard check you on whether you have the latest champions at the highest rank. Nothing else. If two players rank 4’d and sig 200’d 30 champions and one simply chose to rank champions from before 2023 while the other mixed in people from 2024/25 we would not be able to speak to their roster depth at ALL. However, we know definitively who has the higher prestige because they intentionally creep out older ones. Kabam wanted a method to further incentivize the newer champions and assigning them a higher value then tying your rewards to it is just the medium they chose. Dont believe me? Just take a glance at who comprises the top 30 prestige champs and see if you notice a pattern in the recency…

Prestige is an average of the top. While there may be some variable in the strengths of Champs that are very powerful but low in Prestige, it is still a gauge on the strength of someone's Roster. Also worth pointing out that the new system accounts for breadth with Top 30.

While I'm not happy about the adjustment, it's still a valid metric. Always has been.

It would be a valid metric if all champs were balanced in prestige and only varied based on rank and sig level. OP is right…the prestige that Kabam chooses to assign to one champ over another is totally arbitrary and has nothing to do with that champion's value. It is purely a way for Kabam to get whales to chase the new high prestige champ.

my only complaint is that they should’ve went to top 30 years ago. 5 was cool when there was only 25 champs in the game but it always seemed to limited to me. Now we’re seeing the effects of narrowing your roster development to a handful of champs. There isn’t a single piece of content that MSD or any whale or YouTuber has done that I haven’t done. the difference is I haven’t had to spend as much money to achieve the same thing.

I didnt say its not “a metric”. I said its not roster depth. If they suddenly gave captain america classic 50k prestige and made onslaught’s prestige 5 it says nothing about how ready your roster is to take on crucible if you rank up cap over onslaught. As it stands prestige measures nothing except the rate you acquire and rank NEW champions. Its a metric for speed of adoption NOT roster depth. A measure of roster depth is how cheaply you could complete crucible wherein you were directly rewarded for the breadth of content your roster could take on by having dozens of solutions to problems. If all 60+ champions I used had 10 prestige it still cost me 0 revives because my roster is deep. One is arbitrary. One is not

But the point is still spot on. Prestige has nothing to do with someone's ability to tackle content in this game.

I would accept the top 30 in the power index. (Not to be confused with prestige or rating). I think at one point this used to be a thing where was a number assigned to the rating and level of the champion. And it was across the board. So a rank 5 5* was a 120 flat.

The sum of this number for your top 30 for me is acceptable. Otherwise how the hell is a maxed out silver surfer going to get me through more content than a vox or SIM even. Just outrageous we have to play this prestige game again to play into this meta. It doesn't favor unique rank ups and different play styles. It favors whales
