Kabam, please help the community understand why Spiderwoman can’t have ensnare on offense?

Everything that you said in that discussion post is solely focusing on her defensive capabilities. Personally, I think this is exaggerative, I think after fighting her for a season everybody knows how to get around her at this point but, if you have to nerve her for this reason, why are you taking away her ability to be a generally good attacker. You must know that the community has opened thousands upon thousands upon thousands of Titan Nexus crystals trying to specifically get her, many people, including myself have spent silly amounts of money, maxing her out, why are you making a decision to seriously hurt her offensive ability when it’s our defensive ability you’re concerned about?

Because it’s essentially an offensive nerf disguised as a defensive one but it was bold of them to assume most of us would be stupid enough to not notice. She isn’t a very strong defender because of the ensnare, it’s the fumble that takes her from a 3.5 to a 4.5 so if she was over performing on defense then that’s what they should’ve looked that.

I don’t know a single person on these forums or YT comments that ever complained about the ensnare, but I did see people being frustrated due to that fumble.

Yeah, this is pretty ridiculous. She is too good a defender, so we are going to remove utility that people use with her all the time on offense. Makes it tough to want to spend to get champs when they do things like this…

This actually makes her a much better counter for Onslaught because you can push him to SP2 without having to guess whether she's going to disable the inverted controls.

On defense it makes her more of a 3.5 defender than a 5 defender who will disable your parry and anti-evade at the drop of a hat.

You can legit counter her by bringing easily Zemo, Crossbones or any cleanser champ in the game. If you gonna take away her ability to encounter evade and ability accuracy then give her just pursuit and there we go. That easy!!

Kabam already made their decision; it is what it is. I'm just pointing out the effects. At the end of the day, no one asked me or anyone else on this forum about our input on the balancing decision because we're just consumers and not part of Kabam's staff.

Kabam did us dirty again but honestly I’m not surprised. Heaven forbid we get through a single week without them letting 💩 hit the fan. Serpent? Totally fine. Enchantress? Perfectly balanced. But Spider-Woman? Oh sure, let’s gut her with a defensive nerf that also screws her offense.

Because why bother with a simple tweak - like dialing down her ensnare % or simply remove ensnare from her defensive kit - when you can nuke it altogether out of existence? Naturally, Kabam can’t stand the thought of players actually enjoying the game! 🤦‍♂️

I hate this move. I finally get a good champ and max them out and they 💩 on her, .meanwhile for the longest time I couldn't pull Serpent, Bullseye onslaught or enchantress and had to deal with that for MONTHS!!

I think what they’re ultimately trying to do is make it so that every character is designed to deal with a couple problems and that’s it, no flexibility, no creativity, just a very tight lane to follow.

Bingo, can’t have spiderwoman be a Swiss Army knife. She needs to get wrecked by a substantial amount of defenders. They clearly have someone else in the defender pipeline she would have trivialized… they need people to buy that defender. And then buy the solution the following month.

I would very much rather take the Bullseye and Spider Woman counter with the ensnare than the Onslaught counter alone, you can literally just bait sp1s and still clap Onslaught with her.

I have fought Spider Woman with Red Guardian, Bullseye, Cull, Nick, Okoye, Yelena, Spider Woman and Sinister over two seasons and there hasn’t been a single fight yet where that ensnare failed any of my evade counters allowing her to evade and screwing me over. I’ll tell you which one HAS definitely screwed me over multiple times tho, fumble. So no, taking ensnare away doesn’t move her from 4.5 down to 3.5 it’s still an instant loss without a counter so it’s more like 4.5 down to 4. Taking away the fumble on the other hand would put her at almost the same level as Jean which is slightly above a 3 and I’m sure most would agree, you would still have to slow play without a counter because of the evade and you would need good dex reaction time because if you don’t time it perfectly that sp1 will still hit you, but it wouldn’t be an instant loss without a counter like it currently is or like it would be if they remove the ensnare but keep the fumble.

That’s the problem though, without the fun of flexible and generally good characters, there’s no fun left in game, it just becomes a rock paper scissor game. This champion is rock so play the paper champ, this defender is paper, I play the scissor champ etc.

This, and I never say things like this, but this may be the canary in the coal mine. The game maybe ending soon, and so unnecessarily. Why would anyone buy anything in this game when this is how they treat problems that no one believe are there?

Everything being broken all the time is one thing, they don’t sell battlegrounds or story content in crystals and shards and awakening gems, this affects what they sell directly to the consumer. Why, why would I ever spend again? It’s just terrible.

Much better players than you or I have consistently messed up against her with everyone except probably Okoye and Crossbones. She has failed my abilities when I've used Venom and Knull so consistently that I don't even consider them counters at this point.

But anyway, I'm neither in favor nor against the nerf. It's interesting to me, but I don't have a strong opinion either way, especially because I both hate fighting her and yet also have her as 7R4 sig 200. Like I said, it is what it is.

And as far as being a minority voice on the forum, you realize most people here are idiots and losers, right? Social proof doesn't apply in this context.

Agree…. I tend to gloss over “the game is ending” sentiments…. But right now it feels bad enough with everything else, that it might actually happen. These are the types of decisions made with zero concern for the impact. Just like the energy. The game team has silo’d itself and is oblivious to everything outside their genius

I can see your point there but if they removed the fumble at least you'd be able to react to her evading and throwing sp1 whereas with the fumble you're just screwed if she ever does evade.

Also, those best players you speak off (at least most of them from what I've seen on YT) agree that the fumble is what needs to go, not the ensnare. Hell one of the players agreeing with this won a full BGs season himself.

Well yeah of course there are some idiots just yelling cause nobody else does, but you can't deny that there are a lot of comments full of opinions well constructed and with valid points, and those are still the vast majority. I haven't seen a single comment that isn't against the nerf that isn't braindead so far because the only person fully not against it is peixemacaco

I’m probably going to stop commenting on my own thread unless somebody says something interesting but I gotta say man this is just so upsetting. I can’t recall the last time if ever I felt this defeated and disinterested in the game. It feels so unnecessary too. In the eight years I’ve been playing almost every single day If not every single day, I’ve never seen it get to the point where players are actively hoping the game ends like this. Bryan left, Seatin mostly left, Rich is in/out, KT1 is I think actively wishing the game to end, it’s like the only reason why people still play this game including myself is the hope that it’ll be what it once was but but I think it’s genuinely gone. All of this just feels like a leader who surrounds themselves with yes men and are completely ignoring their country burning to the ground. It’s just wild.

Honestly I think if they think that there is a champion they’re about to sell on defense that spider woman’s presence was gonna depreciate, after this, I would be truly shocked if anybody is actually gonna buy any of these crystals ever again. If they go through with this, I really just think that anybody who spent anything is a fool.

My guess as to the reason is there's a mystic coming with some sort of evade & Kabam can't let that shiny new sale toy be trivialized by an existing champion. Otherwise, how to sell the shiny new counter that follows in the months after...

In the big picture, the game will end when someone decides the Marvel license fee increase isn't worth eating anymore. As far as the game experience goes, Kabam made their choice of direction in September 2022 with the launch of battlegrounds. Not so coincidentally, this is followed by the true influx of the 5/5 defender champs, as well as the ($$$) means to collect them and their counters. Prior to this the game experience was story/eq/alliance q/w and "Everest content," a simpler time when you got excited over a Hercules pull and grinded revives on act 4. There's no going back to that at this point, and the fact that despite this outbreak of blatant monetization tactics over the past 2 years, they're at best treading water with revenue while costs continue to escalate. They really have no other course of action going on 11 years in and having pulled their pc/Steam card to little effect.

The game, again, will continue, but what kind of game? I suspect those hoping for a sea change away from this mentality and the issues it's causing will be the ones ending their engagement, which is unfortunate.
