I agree.

I'm not knocking the event as a one-off: it's a fun idea (apart from multiple BG fights with VTD being a horrible idea.)

But presuming that it's a one-off, it means that future players won't have the opportunity to have a VTD relic.

Whereas if this had been a buff for VTD, the benefits would be available to everyone all the time.

I had a lot of fun with this challenge. It’s great that you made a special relic for VTD. I have always wanted to play with him. He’s not the best cosmic fighter but he looks cool as symbiote. Thank you so much for this awesome content.

Ugh — I totally disagree that Synergies are great. I would argue that they are the worst thing this game has ever introduced.

Like, take this content, for example. There were three slots for the first quest, then one for the final quest. What good was a Synergy?

If it were up to me, I would end Synergies today and start folding the best of them into the actual kits of characters

They put in the time and resources to essentially buff him, but instead of outright buffing him, they tied it all to a relic. Not only do you now have to get that relic for the buff to "come into effect", you also don't have any choice when it comes to relics.

It's neat that he got buffed, but I don't really see any upside to it being tied to a specific relic instead of just being added to his base kit. We now have a choice of whether VtD is bad or not, instead of just having him be innately good and having a choice of how to enhance him further with a relic of our choice.

The benefit is it's a lot easier to do it. I don't see it as a replacement for buffs, but using a Champ that's currently on the shelf is a plus.

so, this one time, it’s awesome. call-back to an insane man doing an insane thing. perfect patch to a champ a lot of folk wanted to love (for fun, not competition). easy enough SQ element for what you’re getting (ORed fight notwithstanding). THISCAN DRIVE ENGAGEMENT. in moderation.

this is not a patch for reworks, and not a cash grab. if they treat it as such, they’re repoisoning an already toxic well.

if they do this twice a year, quarterly, something infrequent but recurrent, this would be a hell of a PR win. let us vote on the next poor schleb to get this treatment (and we ALL want to love a few of the champs we never use), or make it seasonal/ holiday themed, use it as a rando story event (cosmic egg forge WTF??? sure!).

VtD is still a trash defender. the relic takes him from meme tier attacker outside of nick questing roles, to useful. not must have, not meta distorting, but legit I can and may actually WANT TO use him, effectively. the design is really right where the fan base wanted it.

this one time, huge win, and I actually thank and applaud Kabam for this. just, PLEASE, think about how you want to revisit this.

I definitely liked this event. Very different and fun. Using buffs through relics is definitely a pretty cool idea, but also don’t think it should be relied on. Maybe a once every 4/5 months would be pretty cool. I also do like the fact for a champion to have their own specifically made relic that works just for them and don’t have to figure out who works best with what relic

It limits player choice in that regard. But it also gives players more choice. Now they can choose how they want their buffed champion to be. With VTD they can choose if he starts with crit or the power gain buff. In the future this concept of choosing your own attribute/abilities for a buffed champion could have some nice uses, and would make your version of that champion special.

I mean, I really want the actual champions themselves buffed, but a couple of thoughts could be:

VTD-level champs

Darkhawk - relic extends his modes, and the Striker refreshes them.

Old Man Logan - relic increases regen Potency, and the ability accuracy of his self-inflicted bleeds (including the Sig benefits), and the Striker refreshes his Fury buffs

Decent champs who won't get buffs for ages

Blade - a relic to enhance the Potency of Danger Sense, and/or broaden the range to include #Villains or something like #Symbiotes

Cap Civil War - a relic allows him to activate one of his Awakened abilities as a Prefight, or gives his SP2 +800 critical rating per kinetic charge

Warlock - a relic that extends his infection and his armour break debuffs; or a striker that grants the opponent a 1% regeneration buff lasting 10s

How about Daredevil (Hell's Kitchen)? You've already got the money in from those players who participated in the Hell's Bells earlier this year (myself included). He's not a game breaker and could be made available now for Summoners as a 7* without negatively affecting the Contest.

The first quest could feature Kingpin as the last fight. The second quest (equivalent of the fight against Howard the Duck) could be against Bullseye.

A relic of Stick, Daredevil's mentor, would be awesome. Plus, if you could do it for March or April next year it might land about the same time as the second session of Born Again. Would just be a nice coincidence.

Yeah but let's be real, this is basically more of a buff than he would have gotten otherwise. Being able to trigger his buffs on striker is absolutely huge and there's also downsides to it as well. The lower buff maximum obviously but also I've found the increased buff duration can be a hindrance of you get bad rng. I'm not saying he's better without it, I just could see instances in which you would prefer to not have it like in incursions maybe

The point is that if they just buffed him outright I don't think hehe would be as powerful as he is with this specific relic and I think it's an interesting way of buffing a champ that is almost there but just not quite and super charging aspects while nerfing others. I just dont think a straight vtd buff would be what we have with the relic and losing access to a bit of bleed damage is worth it imo

I actually think Gwenpool fits this perfectly. She's not a bad champ by any means, like VtD, but having a relic to enhance her abilities plus add something (piece of utility, etc.) could be really cool.

I'd also love to see the same thing for Platpool. I like using him offensively, if ever possible, but a relic centered around enhancing his Card Drawing could be awesome. The only kicker with Plat is that he's a pretty exclusive champion unlike VtD, in which they are basically giving out the 6 star version of the relic. Gwenpool is also not exclusive. Maybe it could be another thing you get in his crystals (based on rarity) or another crystal entirely to chase after.

I remember us debating this a while ago. Synergy relics could have been really useful and at a guess relatively straightforward to develop as all that would be needed was the 'hook' into the existing parts of the kit.

I know Statcast relics are really useful and all but synergy relics would have had a really nice flavour to them.

Anyway, getting off-topic. There's a few candidates - I've mentioned DDHK, Gwenpool could be another good one as stated. Spider-Man (Symbiote) might be a good candidate - maybe the Symbiote in a specimen jar?

I think the Captain Marvels and Americas need an overhaul, not this. The base kit needs enough in it, but be underpowered or underperforming for this to be an optimal fit.
