What is the logic behind matchmaking in the unranked battlegrounds?

I switched my deck to only 3× s7r4 and 3× s7r2 champs, with everything else being 2-stars, just to finish the omelette quest. I tried this setup 5 times in unranked battlegrounds, and only once did I get matched with someone who felt appropriate for that deck strengtht. The other matches were practically impossible for my current deck, even though they would’ve been quite easy with my normal deck.

So I’m wondering: is the matchmaking based on our game roster’s strength, or just the strength of the deck we’re currently using? I’m not sure about either.

It's based on your top 30 prestige not your deck strength.

It's not just prestige only. It's more complicated (we dont know what it is).

But roster strength and top 30 are part of the equation.

It's purely based on your prestige

Kabam just pluck your prestige which is already available and match you with someone in your prestige range

It only applies to unranked, so it makes sense. Smaller players wanted roster based matchmaking and that's really the best way to go about it since a deck consists of 30 anyway. Thankfully they didn't reintroduce sandbagging like OP was hoping.
