OG Mike said that when the game turns 20 years old, all the units that are spent throughout the many years will be refunded back to everyone during the 20 year anniversay promotion as specail units. Unfortunately the the first SBC will cost you all those special units and the crystal will contain a 7 star Kabam OG Mike as a profile pic. The rest of the SBC wil still cost you 300 units. These special units will also expire on December 25th that year and converted into nothing so you have to use the units. So it looks like you were right but we all have to wait for 9 more years to reap the rewards.
