Why is SFSL not first edition?

I've seen a bunch of discussion on the border which is completely fair but haven't seen anyone bring this up.
Why is Star Lord not a first edition champion if you get him during the first time he's available?
Feels like another slam dunk with these champs that was confusingly whiffed with this release.
It kinda feels like the same love and care wasn't put into these SF champs like the deathless.it currently feels like they are a "alright here damn" set of champs following the flop of the Eidols

I said it a lot of time but naming "First Edition" was a wrong decision. They could have named it "Radiant Edition", "Prestige Edition", or even "Shiny Edition" to avoid confusion.

"First" is a misnomer. That's not the criteria. It's more of a different method to differentiate from the regular acquisition methods. Everyone who's gonna get SLSF will be getting it through the store.(for the foreseeable future) There wouldn't be any differentiation

Right. That's why anyone dedicated enough to get him this week (StarLord's "first run" if you will) should have gotten the limited or first edition. It's basically similar to how they described how they would have given first edition dthanos and co.

At the end of the day, it is just an extra incentive and rewards for dedicated players that offer no real game value. Just a shiny photo.

It would just be something to make grinding everything out and getting them when they first release more special and differentiate them from bums who just buy the champs with units later. If you remember with the deathless, many players did and still do feel a certain prestige toward getting them through the grind vs getting them later with units but have nothing to show for that.

One of the main(or only reason), First edition champs were introduced were to monetize them without affecting balance. So if anything, first edition would be given to those who would buy it with units rather than to those who got it for 'free'

We got a first edition rhinoceros for free.

I'm suspecting the SF Starlord awakening method will involve the acquisition a first edition. Maybe a 1v1 mission vs a cosmic enemy like Ronan or a dance off versus classic starlord to be done with a 7s SF Starlord for a first edition reward
