Content Needs to Improve

I’ve played this game for more than 11 years: I love it. Logging in today though, the content I see just isn’t what I want to be doing.

It’s been more than a year since Epoch of Pain was released. Itself being a low effort combination of previous “of pain” events, but with an awesome Ares boss many enjoyed. We were told we’d be seeing more of him…surely not waiting over 12 months though?

We got Wheel of Fate in June. It was a grind, and also low effort combination of previous fights.

We have seen seemingly high effort from Kabam in stupid mini games that are near universally hated. Signing in today, I’m reminded to play the dance off janky game everyone hates. For the lunar new year celebration, we get to do hundreds and hundreds of rounds for a limited chance at a pointless trophy champ. Itself being a horrible update of an already awful poker mini game, now just more confusing with trees and water, and colours that make it horrible to play for colourblind people (like me).

Some old champs are being updated and made available to us, that’s a win. But the most exciting thing happening right now is getting a 7* BWCV if you want to pay money for her.

Coliseum is a hugely exciting mode but the solo mode just sucks. Another grind-fest doing a fight that’s not fun. How about a scoring system and see how far you get from a select pool of champs Kabam decides?

I miss there being good content in this game. Kabam isn’t deliberately letting the game die—that’s clear from summoners fest and an awesome banquet event—but they are killing it by choosing to put resources in the wrong things and ignoring the community’s feedback constantly. How the **** did we get this poker nonsense again for lunar new year?!

Agreed. Less temp grind content. More forever content that we can build up and do, whenever we want. I miss the feeling of being able to choose what I want to in game each month. Not what needs to be grinded each day of the week because of staggering event timers week over week.

hot take….these game modes are meant to be skipped by valiant.

after reset today, I’ll be done with dance mode and I’ll never need to go back to that mode once last milestone is done.

for the lunar event, it’s unfortunate as this was a fun and nice way to pop some red envelopes and get some nice chips and units.

with he nerf to envelops, I can promise you there is zero need to score anything in this event beyond what gets you the mysterium milestones.

it’s maybe 2-3 rounds total of specific champs, then you can take rest of week off from it.

dont be like me and waste 3-4 hours with it to only find the nerfed envelopes and not even half way done to final milestones. I can assure you its pure waste of time.

enjoy the time off and spend that extra time with family and friends

Cold take: there isnt enough in the game for valiants to justify creating content not for them so this take is stupid.

Players not at the top of the game have heaps and heaps of content to do. They dont need more.

Im not even at what I consider to be the top of the game and if I want to play mcoc on any given day I have two realistic options: battlegrounds or arena.

Battlegrounds is cheeks, this new season made it even worse AND it's currently off-season so theres no point in playing that.

Arena is therefore currently the only thing to do but you can outgrind them in a couple hours so there isnt alot there either.

Even if Kabam changes the game back to it was in the 2010s, and the community will still be enraged by something because that's how society works right.? Nothings ever good enough and people don't like change if it doesn't change in their favor. The funniest thing is that the same rage baters in here log in and do their daily rewards every day, just to come here and complain about sum dumb ish. Just my thoughts. People won't like. But it's cool.

I agree that I miss old style content (necro, epoch, SOP). Coliseum to me is a huge miss. It's recycling the SOP/epoc fights in a less enjoyable way (again, for my game playing experience….results may vary). I miss a new fight where it was fun to try to solo. And if I couldn't, eh…a revive or two would take care of it. But just taking down health bar after health bar is only here to make players grind and engage more.

Like Kabam said "we spent all this time creating the fight, but people are done with it in 10 minutes. How can we drive engagement numbers using the same fight? MAKE THEM DO IT 80 TIMES!!!!" Feels lazy. Coliseum will need to implement a reward structure that incentivizes taking down as many bars as possible in a single run for it to be successful (whether its milestones, and overall leaderboard, or both). Grinding just to grind is boring AF. There is no incentive to learn or master the fight.

In terms of these side events - I think it's even worse. I'm hoping this is the last we see of these "enter this separate browser" type of side events. Vast majority of players seem to dislike them, and they are so far outside of the core game mechanics that I have no desire to waste my time doing these grind fests. I think about how much time and effort goes into creating these modes and I'm baffled that they don't use there time coming up with (for example) new Carina's challenges. I don't have a problem with recycling content if it is fun, challenging and engaging. Even if the challenges are not my cup of tea (e.g., Fintech's challenges are currently the only content not complete on my account, and probably never will be).

The poker game? It's okay. I do not like the scoring this time around (just stick with poker hands) and it is far too grindy for zero upside. I got about half way through the milestones, opened the red tickets, and said "well this is a waste of my time". The milestones should have been greater red envelopes, even if there were less overall.

I have stopped doing more than VT in BGs as well. Why? Because I generally stopped spending when the game became less fun, which caused my roster to fall behind VERY quickly over the last 6-12 months.

I want the game to be fun and engaging, not grindy for the sake of pushing engagement numbers. There was a time when we all waited for new content to drop. Now I don't really look forward to new content because it's not engaging. Even the story content is just something to blast through in a day. Though I will say….the story content bosses remain goated. I always find them fun - so big props to the designers.

Kabam strategy is clear as day. Minimize development costs, maximize our time spent in game, remonetize old assets (eg mid champs). The slide for their quarterly financials practically writes itself.

Cheap / recycled content with an emphasis on grinding. No original formats or fights to be seen.

I just think Kabam have lost touch with their player base and don’t know how to make consistent, engaging content.

We’re getting 1 or 2 good piece’s of content per year, and the game has lost its way.

I feel like we’re being strung along with promises that they don’t keep, like no we don’t want to see content we vocally disliked before, I thought that’d be obvious, and rewards haven’t shifted at all considering banquet made top resources now practically worthless; players saving hundreds of thousands of titan shards and having an abundance of rank 4s.

I think ascension is what we need and a new progression title to go along with it, but things seem to be going slowly and pain points take forever to be addressed. We STILL can’t skip to elder eq, and they did change the format after a while, which was also frustrating, but it just feels like they’re taking time that they don’t really have.

They need to experiment and improve on some game modes to give players, but the bgs changes are not it, and with no prior warning or even acknowledgement in the stream they had recently makes it seem rushed and a last minute decision just for fun. Cantona made a really good video on it which I recommend you check out if you want to hear it best, you can’t have an experiment where you’re effectively unit gating 90% of the community who isn’t willing to spend a million units on rerolls. They have used up all of the good will banquet gave them in just a month with these poor excuses for content. There is nothing on changing alliance colosseums level up system and the image below is disgusting to say the least. There isn’t a need to monetise every single corner of the game when they have such successful events like banquet. There’s also a factor of built up community resentment which I feel gets forgotten, over time when Kabam make changes and do these things that no one likes or asked for people, people don’t forget, we move on but eventually players slowly get more and more unhappy with the state of the game. Kabam don’t owe the players anything nor are they required to listen to us, but at the end of the day the only reason this game exists is because of the players, and they will have to compromise if they want their pockets full on banquet or other big events, point in case them going back on the spider woman nerf acting as if they achieved sudden enlightenment

honestly, the AI never crosses my mind as something that will change. It just is what it is. I just want new fighting content that’s not a retread of something else or borrowed from some other **** mobile game format.

This is why Kabam needs to focus less on the “dimensional arcade” style of content and fix the issues we need fixing. AI. EQ format. Champion balancing.

Wonder if Kabam have any intention of addressing this.

The content is dry AF, poker game has been out a week tomorrow and I haven't seen a single person enjoying it, it's a downgrade to what it was previously but with an even higher demand for sh*t rewards. Like seriously, who chose to give us the cr*ppy basic envelopes when we've always gotten the greater envelopes with better rewards?

And this is set to go on for another 2-weeks, absolutely shocking decision making coming from Kabam

The rest is just boring, EQ is still a grind because Kabam can't do anything within an acceptable time frame, there's no difficult content, nothing apart from BGs that actually needs more than 5-seconds thought process

personally i really enjoyed solo coliseum, yeah, it is a little bit of a grind, but honestly al 4 bosses dont really take more than 10 hours to do total, and the rewards are insane for it. however i can see that its probably a lower effort designing just 4 fights instead of 20 + like epoch for example.

maybe they will release a necropolos 2.0 soon, fingers crossed.

i think its about time we see another everest type content, it could contain ascension materials, and R5 gems.
