7* Ascension

Is anybody actually onboard with this?

I know we're yet to actually start ascending but it looks terrible in my opinion.

6* ascension was amazing, no prestige affect, no limitations just ascend your favourite champs. But the 7* version is being micromanaged by Kabam, they're deciding who is and isn't ascendable, we have to open crystals and hoping we get the ascension tokens we want and they're all underwhelming champions.

I've been playing this game long enough to know this Kabam trying to save their f*ck ups, they are deciding to not allow the Toxic AF champs they created to try and reduce their usage in BG, they couldn't just admit Serpent, DP, Bullseye we're stupid defenders now they're just going to try and scale them out

The whole thing just feels like damage control and a ploy for money on the prestige front which they already did recently with champing prestige to top 30. For ONCE Kabam stop thinking 100% on money and think about the players

Most people I feel like were on the fence leaning to being on board until they got to the slide about new champs and then lost everyone

Yeh I was on the fence when they started restricting who gets ascended but adding in the champs who are ascendable and then the horrible idea of how to actually ascend them/what you need I've leaped overboard and sunk to the bottom 😂

Well that's my concern too. I want to wait to see the global picture… but normally I will try to Ascend (rank 1-2) my favorite champion AND get him to rank 5 (since the material to get to it is so rare - I'm so not ready yet).

Now - for sure I have options from the launch pool (Spunk, Sasquatch…) but it's clear that I feel lost in that situation.

There'll be other Box Pool in the "future"… ok yeah. But I'm still waiting for "allready in-game" iconic 7stars to come in (and buffed in some cases) like Wolverine, Beast, Classic DD, MoonKnight.

And I'm also pretty sure that if I act to soon = 100% regret.
Maybe this year a new champion on my 11years wish list will come and so yeah…!
Don't know if I will paralyzed to do any move!

IMO materials should have been gain trought Titans too. If not at first draft - then when duped trough Titan Crystals.

I am happy in one regard that it's not open season on who to Ascend - otherwise everyone would likely pick the obvious meta champions and the current situation would get worse.

Apart from that, I have concerns over the cost and complexity. I'm not sold on some of the champions in the Ascension Pool either but some of that is personal preference.

7* ascension is not like 6*ascension look at 7* ascension as if it was 8*s but instead they limit the champions you can ascend just like we would have only had a limited pool of 8*s to get the only thing I don't like is the new champion ascension path if you dont spend thousands a month and have to wait a yr to maybe find a way to ascend them

Yes, people who are complaining about not being able to ascend anyone they want are fundamentally missing the point. 6* Ascension happened with 7*s already on the way, and was there to ease the transition before 6*s became “obsolete”. 7* Ascension, meanwhile, is replacing the release of a new 8* rarity entirely. The alternative to the so-called “bad” 7* Ascension pool is that exact same “bad” pool becomes the 8* launch pool. That micromanagement was a feature of the 7* rollout, and it was always therefore going to be a part of the 7* Ascension rollout since it’s the replacement to 8*s. If you’re gonna criticize 7* Ascension, you have to do it through that lens of a new rarity; despite the same name, it’s doing a different job than 6* Ascension.

The way they’re releasing Ascension for new champs, however, is objectionable. To be frank, I don’t really care all that much myself because I’m not interested in being the sorta top-100 PvP player where that difference truly matters. Doesn’t mean I really agree with it either though, and the backlash to that part of Ascension gets my approval even if I don’t actually quite care enough to be on the frontlines of that fight.

I still don't understand how it works but limiting the ascension pool to not allow me to ascend champs I like using is kinda sucky.

It seems like a complicated way to age out champs they don't want us to use and increase the stats on champs they don't want to buff or otherwise make interesting.

F2Ps will be able to ascend champs like Patriot and Gorr.

Whales will be able to ascend champs like Dr. Strange and Madelyne Pryor.

The only person on the forum who thinks this is cool is Kabamosaurus Rex.

Wasn’t a terrible concept until they pulled the “new champs are locked behind cash” basically. I mean don’t get me wrong the fact that some trash like Patriot were in it was horrible, but at least we had some gems in it like BPCW and some decent ones like Gentle. However locking new champs completely is just such a **** predatory greedy move from Kabam I really don’t understand what they were thinking.

I think all of it sounds worse than it is. You have to keep in mind that we aren’t getting 8* champs. I do think making ascension drops for new champs exclusive to valiant crystals for a year is excessive but IMHO it’s preferable what an 8* chase could have been. If they introduced 8* champs, that would have meant that there would be a new 8* crystal (probably with a higher shard requirement like 20K to open one), potentially a new 8* titan crystal with a long refresh on it, and potentially a new Elder featured crystal with a worse drop rate and higher pity threshold. Whales would spend and get the newest 8* champs first and occasionally F2P and moderate spenders would get lucky and pull one of them. What we’re getting is, believe it or not, a more pro-player version of that. If they had just gone with 8* champs (which would have been so much easier for them and a worse result for us) you would all still be here complaining about how they are greedy and predatory for monetizing and devaluing the rosters you devoted so much time and effort (and money) building.

Also your cannot compare how easy 6* ascension was to how complicated 7* ascension looks to be. 6* ascension was so easy because they released 7* champs alongside it. The monetization was all on the 7* champs with them selling 7* shards, titan shards, paragon crystals, valiant crystals, and fully formed 7* and titan crystals. They didn’t even put a pity system in the game until last year so you could have spent $1,000 and still not get the featured champ you were after. Trust me, as bad as all of this sounds it is better than the alternative

it’s not just ftp who won’t get a sniff of new ascendable champs. Anyone not spending a couple of hundred dollars a month is out.

I genuinely had no idea that kind of spending was so prevalent.

It’ll be interesting to see whether low spenders continue to bother and can see any continued benefit in doing so.

Let’s be real, If that was possible they’d be forgotten anyway. Other new AND ascendable champs are just better (Strange/Pav/Goblin Queen etc). No reason to buzz about a champ that’s only made good by their ascension.

But realistically since it’s based on who you pull and you have no choice unless you whale, they’ll probably be ascended and used anyway.

As f2p player I don't think I'll be getting my first ascension until 2028. So I'm really excited. Also don't feel like wasting rank up resources on champs that need ascension to be good.

I think all these comments about ascension replacing 8* is wrong, we're literally only just scraping r5 and 7* go into r6 so we are still 2 years away from 8* being needed.

When 7* dropped I'm sure most people already had 30+ r5 6* and even that was about the right time for the next rarity.

I think the entire push for ascending 7* is too soon, we haven't even maxed out 7* ranks yet and we'll see R4 ascended 7* before r6? That's like ascending R3 6* it just doesn't exist and shouldn't and then to add on the convoluted way of doing so and the pay wall on top is ruining it already

When 7 Stars dropped, Rank 5 Six Stars were accessible about one month prior

People are complaining about this direction as if it was something they would consider and revert. They probably worked for over 6 months on this. Changing their minds won't even be in their list of possibilities.

This is absolutely true and anyone who has ever worked in software development can attest to this. Most likely the next few months are already well in flight and expecting this to be in place. The ship hasn't just sailed, it's now out of sight of land.

The problem to me isn't where we are now - it was three, maybe six months ago when a change of direction could have more easily happened. I don't know if the CCP were ever engaged with discussions on the idea, or maybe a player group (under NDA).

People fail to understand that this is not an event, its not a quest reward. Its probably their planning for the next 2 or 3 years.

Kabam made the mistake of calling this program Ascension and people thought it would be similar to a 6* ascension.
