No, there won't.

They've said that when the box changes, so will the shards; so it's basically use them or lose them.

The question is, what happens to any leftover Super Duper Box fragments if you don’t have enough to spend on a full cluster drop? Will the remaining fragments convert to anything useful or do they just disappear? @Kabam (Osaurus) Rex or @KabamPinwheel any news on this?

the box isn’t going anywhere. The shards aren’t going anywhere. No champs will be added to the box. Use the shards on the box, when a new box is made new shards will be added to the game. If you don’t have enough shards now you save the shards until you do.

Not explicitly. They were a little vague.

But, as @Migginsly says, there was an explanation that when a new box is designed, it would have new shards (instead of the current Super Duper shards...') so hoarding is pointless.

Now when a new box is designed, we will presumably start getting those new shards from 7* Dupes.

Once we're no longer receiving Super Duper shards, (1) the current box may, or may not eventually disappear, and (2) we'll need a solution for left-over Super Duper shards, since we won't be getting any more of them.

It would be extremely annoying to be stuck with several thousand Super Duper shards and no way to use them.

To be honest, the easiest and fairest would be a 1:1 exchange in the store, with an absolute max limit of 15,000 Super Duper shards. If you could convert in either direction, that would allow you to have a final choice to pursue the old champs in the old box; or new champs in the new box

That way, Kabam can avoid complaints about wasted shards; whilst preventing the afore-mentioned hoarding.

It's a future problem for us mortal peasants. And that problem will come once we have opened it 18 times and there's no reason to open it anymore.

Most of us get to open it 2 times.

Small whale tier opened 3-4 times.

The mega Whale tier have opened 8+

We are nowhere close to that point where these shards will become redudndant.

Then there's 7A3 and 7A11 we know nothing about.

We are not at that point though. A3/A4 are not live and we don't know how, when and whats about them.

If you hit 18 crystals before A3/A4 goes live, we can come back to this and start pondering what to do.
