Im being told that I can only ascend lizard from his own crystal or through the empowered crystal.

I have pulled lizard enough times to get him to Ascended to lvl 2 and according to the march livestream we can get lizard Ascended by Any pull it doesn't matter from which crystal @kabamasouras Rex aka @karate Mike can you please get this straightened out!!!!!

It is already straightened out, Lizard from any source up until March 12th will grant Ascension resources via RER.

just a reminder that we will not be able to ascend 2 Lizard immediately because we still have to collect at least 8 science tokens (if you pull him 3 times)
