You can be matched with someone in a different, but close tier if there is no one available in your own tier. The alternative is to wait longer for a match.
yes that cannot be a case that you are matched with a higher tier
so similarly the vibranium v tier person was matched to me, similarly i must be matched to a lower tier, definitely not a higher tier. This is incorrect
also its hard to believe that there is no one in diamond 1 tier and if not then it ahould wait. The match started in 30 seconds so it could have waited
So if you are in Diamond 1, you should get matched against Diamond 2 because you don't think you should get matched against an opponent in a higher tier?...so what do you say about the person in Diamond 2 that gets stuck going up a tier against you? Not that tier really even relates to skill or roster, but you clearly just want whatever you perceived to be the easiest match possible. You're content to overpower someone else but never to be overpowered yourself. Cool.
I am just putting your logic and make it obvious that matching anyone to a higher tier is not correct, why because the lower tier will always feel it incorrect.
You are saying that it’s correct to match to a higher tier.
Its incorrect, thats the whole point.
the wait time was 30 seconds and within 30 seconds the game decides that there is no one in diamond 1 tier, it’s hard to believe. In fact it could have waited more and rather its fine to wait more and find a proper match in the same tier.
I totally dont think its correct to match to a higher tier,
Don't you understand? Fair matchmaking is when you are a higher power level than the opponent, unfair matchmaking is when the opponent has a higher power level than you /s
Pro tip if you cannot handle more powerful opponent, quit matchmaking after 30 seconds or less, the longer you wait, the more powerful opponent you will get bcos matchmaking cannot find an opponent in your same tier
Yes but matching someone in a higher tier doesn’t automatically make them a stronger opponent like OP thinks.
The issue is that there are not many people at D1 seeking matches at the time you sought one.
This happens often at the end of a BGs season when players are done competing or when people dislike the meta and play only for objectives.
For example, we theoretically could have matched (I’m through D1), but I experience a violent bout of disgust when I even think about matchmaking, triggered mainly by the inanity of this meta. And I swipe the game off and do something else entirely.

I didn't present logic, I presented fact. I don't think you understand what "correct" or "incorrect" mean. The way matchmaking works - the way it is built (and therefore what is correct) is that it searches for players in your tier first and if none are available then it will find someone +/- one tier from you. Whether someone is a tier above or below you has little to no bearing on their skill or their account size, but can even be as simple as they've played more matches than you. There is nothing incorrect about matching someone outside your tier, and there is no advantage or disadvantage gained as a result.
I don't find it correct because tiers decide a players skill and hence a person from a lower tier must not be matched with a player from a higher skill. I totally understand what you are saying but I mentioned that likewise it is not okay that I must be matched with a lower tier, same it is not okay to match me to a higher tier - in short outside tier matches must not be done except you are in a gladiator's circuit where to reach one has already proven his might.
Also none of us have coded how the tier thing works and hence whether it is intended to do what it is doing or whether it is a bug is always debatable.
Also if a player is not available in the tier above then will it go to one more tier above and find a match, so it will just keep on doing that till it gets a match and then tier doesn't matter. I don't find this logic correct.
They don’t decide a players skill though. It has to do with how far you’ve progressed. Someone that’s played more matches this season may be in a higher tier, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re higher skilled. If someone with a 12m account hasn’t played for a season season or 2, they’ll drop from GC to gold. Are players in platinum better players with stronger rosters? Unlikely.
It can go more than one tier, but it doesn't need to. If it ever happens, it's really only in the circuit. As far as who "coded how the tier thing works", well, Kabam did and they said as much. There's no bug. It's literally how it is designed to function to keep matchmaking times as low as possible.
If we take a Meta or a season then in that season they decide the player's skill and hence based on the skills the rewards are also associated. How far one has progressed is definitely based on one's skill, while there are other dynamics involved, but skill is one of the most important factor. Progression is always tied up to a person's skill and hence as the tier increases the difficulty to progress also increases.
Is it documented as to how you are claiming it? Also just to add my other matches have waited for 45 seconds or more than 30 seconds but then I was always matched with a player from the same tier, hence this time I am questioning or it feels odd.
Yes. You're welcome to go digging. I'm not going to waste my time because you probably wouldn't believe it anyway. They made the change to matchmaking several months back.
Yes, it has been documented. As for why you might have been matched with a player in your own tier after 45 seconds, that's because it just expands the search. It doesn't exclude the current tier you're in. So someone from your current tear joints while it's in the expanded search, it will still select that opponent if it hasn't found anyone from your current tier or expanded tier
People's standards are way too high. Stop expecting critical thinking and settle for some basic thinking.
Being in a higher VT tier only proves the person played more matches, doesn't mean stronger roster or higher skills.
I guess this thread would be a lot funnier if OP got paired with someone in a lower tier and lost. Doubt he would post a thread like that out of shame though ..
