With Champs getting in new power levels, I think that RoL is no longer a good enough testing ground for a lot of champions.

And with Abyss and LoL having damage caps, I think its time for people to have a new place for punching bags and putting poor winter soldier and rest of the guys to rest.

Maybe Kabam can implement a system Where damage caps are removed in the lanes we have explored in Abyss/LoL? That way the content still stays relevant for the paths that haven’t been explored yet?

Or Maybe introduce an RoL 2.0 without damage caps?

What are your thoughts on this?

They should just put infinite health bars in practice mode. Would solve the issue of damage caps and help us practice against tough defenders better without worrying about dying if they give everyone 2 or 3 star versions of the new monthly champions

the CCP testing map has been (since its introduction) and remains to be the gold standard for this type of map, meta defenders at BG/War/larger health pools + huge tanky punching bags for experimenting. No nodes no damage caps.

they will never give us this because then they will lose money from meta defenders if we are able to practise against them and they are easier to defeat.

There are two elements of players wanting to practice more effectively.

Learn new defenders — I don’t think Kabam will ever facilitate this
Learn new attackers — maybe Kabam will play ball on this one. Part of the problem of RoL, LoL, etc is the lack of interactive RNG in the opponents’ kits. If you pull a champ who needs certain conditions (e.g Mr Knight needs debuffs placed on him for his kit to fully “work”), there aren’t many good places to learn the champ. I think Kabam could set up a test map with diverse nodes and vanilla defenders that would allow us to better enjoy the new champs they put so much effort into creating. (Without compromising the value of new meta defenders.)

For point 1, they removed all nodes from the EQ bosses specifically so we'd have an opportunity to practice fighting the new characters. It's not out of the picture.

If replaying an entire EQ map to have one fight against a new champ works for you, go for it. I guess. I wouldn’t do that under any circumstances.

But I don’t care about point number one. Learning to fight new defenders is a lot less of an issue than having a good place to learn the increasingly complicated attackers. IMO, of course.

I love these conspiracy theories. I used to get frustrated at them, but now I'm mostly entertained by them.

If this were true, then why would Kabam give the CCP early access to new champions so that they could make videos explaining how they work ahead of time to release to the community?

Every conspiracy theory suffers from the same problem. All evidence supporting the theory is proof. All evidence contracting the theory is also proof, provided you employ sufficient mental gyrations. In this case, the conspiracy theory is: Kabam is greedy and refuses to give players any help in combating new champs by denying players access to the CCP test maps. But they only created those maps in the first place to assist the CCP in giving players help in learning new champs. So a thing Kabam did for free to help the CCP help the players is used to prove Kabam won't help players unless they can monetize it.

I don't see how anyone could even be mad at that.

it is in kabams interest (to generate revenue) to allow content creators to use and display new champions.
it is not in kabams interest to give summoners near unlimited scope to try out new defenders against potential counters.

This isn’t just some zany conspiracy theory it’s basic business

The best example for this is High Evolutionary. He was marketed as the next crazy meta defender, content creators were allowed to play with and against him to build hype. When he eventually came out a lot of those players who spend to push higher in AW/BGs went out of their way to spend for him (as they do with every new champion) but once summoners realised pretty quickly that he really wasn’t that and, hype around the champion died out as quickly as it grew.

there is a huge difference between allowing content creators to showcase champs, where they have tight time constraints and structural roster limitations (yes the CCP beta has unlimited rank ups but creators are likely to try common/their most used champs rather than outside the box options) when producing content. Given to the community to experiment freely is different to “viewable from our pre determined content creating partners”

at the end of the day kabam cannot produce a good reason as to why a resource like the CCP testing map isn’t just a part of the game, aside from protecting their own financial assets, which speaks to a larger problem with the game in the defender focus on new champ release

If MCOC was an old school subscription game and not an F2P micro transaction supported monetized game, I would not release the CCP test maps to the general player population if it was my decision to make, even though in such a situation there would be absolutely no revenue element to that decision.

The fact that you can't think of a good reason why that should happen except "making money" is not a failing of the game. It is the common failing of game players being unable to think like game makers.

There are in fact lots of good reasons, but the one that would decide the matter for me is that doing so would be bad for the content developers and bad for most of the players. I'll leave that as an exercise for the reader, although the reason is something I've discussed many times in the past.

I would really like RoL 2.
Similar format, without nodes, just a larger lifepool.
The rewards wouldn't matter that much, it would be a cool addition.
But maybe they could add some old champions with their 7-star versions.
Champions that I imagine shouldn't receive changes because they have more modern versions, like Red Cyclops, Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel OG.
It would contribute to the collectives and generate a lot of content, it wouldn't be much work to do.
There's no need for meta defenders either.

Watching CCP play a champion and learning to play a champion yourself are two different things entirely. Kabam invests a lot in champions, many of which (lately) are borderline inscrutable because the mechanics are so complex. If I was the designer of Mr Knight or Magik (both of whom seem pretty scarce in the game to me), I’d want players to have a reliable way to learn their kits. Giving players evergreen content where they can learn and hopefully enjoy new champs is not necessarily bad business.

Both champions exist in forms relatively easy to get in lower rarities with identical attacker mechanics. What you can't easily do is practice with those champions in end-game comparable content settings.

"Giving players evergreen content where they can learn and hopefully enjoy new champs is not necessarily bad business" is a bit of a straw man at least in my case, because I've never tried to make the case that it was (perhaps other people have, but I'm not one of them). I said I would not do it, and I don't think it would be good for either the developers or in the long run the players. Technically that's probably not good business, but I'm not specifically thinking of any direct business practice factors. In fact, as I have said repeatedly, my decision would be unaffected if MCOC had no way to monetize new champions, or literally anything at all. Those things are additional complicating factors, but not the deciding factor.

I guess I’ve not been clear. What I would personally enjoy (and what I think would encourage adoption of champs, higher player engagement, etc) is a convenient map where you can fight a range of champs with different rpg keys / nodes / mechanics. I keep using Mr Knight as an example because he “needs” the opponent to put debuffs on him. He needs opponents with multiple abilities that he can fail, etc. No one like that in RoL, LoL, early Abyss fights, etc.

It’s not about access to lower rarities of the champs, it’s having access to decent matchups where you can learn a kit without having to endlessly duel your own champs.

We have rol 2, we even have rol 3 and 4 as well, they just aren't testing maps because rol was never designed as a testing

One thing that I would like to see is just an introduction of more tiers of the otherwise same old Realm of Legends. As in, you have Tier 1 which is ROL as it currently is, then T2 where the health pools and attack values have been upped to maybe Abyss levels, and then a T3 where you have Necropolis-level health pools and attack values. You can have the same bland vanilla defenders in there - I don't care about them - but it would just be nice to be able to practice certain things in longer fights. Not only is it getting harder and harder to gauge champion strenghts when they blitz through ROL fights in 14 seconds nowadays, but it is impossible to test out ramp-up champs under those circumstances.

Or maybe just make a future SQ map permanent. Just something to replace ROL. It can be fun speedrunning it, but it's not as educational as it once was.

I was just about to make a post about this. I like collectives but they really did just make rol obsolete. One of my favorite things to do in game when there was nothing to do was just go play different champs in rol. I like and understand having nodes on most content but for the sake of having fun i wish the would come out with some no node stuff. Even if, like you said, it’s just a rol2.0 with a few new fights with no nodes and bigger health pools and use 7 stars.
