Worth Spending Units for the 4→5 (Metamorphosis) Rank Up Gem to Reach Elder?

I’m currently debating whether it’s worth spending the units needed to grind the final 450-point milestone in the Metamorphosis track for the 4→5 Rank Up Gem.

Right now, this would become my third Rank 5 champion, which means I’d reach Elder status. The main reason I’m considering it is because it would unlock the Elder deals during the July 4th sales.

The downside is that getting there would leave me with a lot fewer units to actually spend on those July 4th deals afterward.

So I’m wondering:
Is reaching Elder before July 4th worth the unit investment? Or would it be smarter to save the units and skip the final milestone?

you’d probably spend fewer units doing the carinas and the rewards are better.

36K units just for a R5 gem is a bit too much (2 if you consider the trade-in gem which you can redeem for a R5 after reaching Elder). Doing carinas and July 4 deals are a better investment. Or, wait until the next round of Coliseum which gives another 1.5 T5A (if you just need one more T5A and you're willing to wait that long)

If units are important to you (eg you aren’t buying Odins in bulk), banquet has been the best value over the past few years. The mid year sales may have some flashy champs or rankup mats, but nothing beats banquet for value.

If I'm reading this correct you wouldn't get the 4-5 gem would you?

You need the gem to get your third rank 5 and become elder but the gem is only available to those that are already elder.

There are technically two gems available. One for both Valiant and Elder players, and one just for Elder players.

To answer OP's question, I would just echo what others have already said. The path to Elder is already open to f2p players in game. I got it without even spending any units on my main account, and by spending a couple of thousand units on my baby account (and that was just because I got impatient and wouldn't wait to restock my revives). So to me, it seems quite excessive to spend that many units just to get to the final r5.

But at the same time, it depends on how far away from that final r5 you are and what kind of content you'd have to complete to get to it. If you "just" need to explore Act 9 or do the Carinas, those options are open to you immediately and I would recommend completing those things rather than just dumping units in this event. However, if you've already done those things and have instead missed some of the previous Apex Coliseum rewards, I understand that there's not a clear way forward since you can't immediately catch up on those missed rewards. Especially not if you want it specifically before July 4th.

In that case, I would maybe suggest that you wait until the next livestream. I think that'll be next week, right? If Kabam reveals that there will be (or won't be) enough t5a next month to get you to a third r5 champ, you can make a more educated decision as to whether or not it's worth spending all of those units in this event. There are still 11 days left of the event, so you should be able to wait for the livestream and make your decision after you know what next month is going to have on offer.
