Sometimes there are offers for around 805-1,000 units (there was one a couple months back). Also they sometimes sell them for cash in the unit store... and lastly you can get one for 1004-ing Act 4 too I believe (I think there is another earn-able one in of of those Legends things too).
Easiest way is to buy one for 850-1,000 units when the offer comes up (or the cash offer which I think was $50 the last I saw with a choose-able class gem).
Also your post assumes they have the roster and skill explore even Chapter 1 of Act 5... while I agree Act 4 is terribly long and tiresome it is still easier then Act 5 I assume (so he may not be able to even touch Act 5 yet, let alone explore the hard paths... I believe you are making the mistake of thinking about it from your stacked roster perspective and not the perspective of a newer player with probably 4/40 4*s at best).
