2015 rank up gems [Merged Threads]

Very unfair to allow the people that used the rank up gems on new champs keep the rank ups and not allow people that complete it later. Need consistency, either rank down the champs that were done that weren't supposed to be or allow everyone to use them in the same manner.

They need to give everyone a chance to make it right on the player's terms, rather than, yet again, deciding something will or will not be undone based on exploits. How many times have users exploited something and have those rewards stripped, or been banned? But this time, Kabam makes a mature decision, decides "this is on us, let's not punish them" but still comes across as a middle finger.

It's not right. Kabam has f-dash-dash-dash--you-see-kay'd up left and right this year and they're being garbage about compensation (which i dont want in this case but in general), openness, and fairness to the community.

That's not what happened. The bug was brought to their attention and immediately they disabled them. The fix was pushed not long after. They didn't discover it and let people run amok.

Probably brought to their attention after all the alliances buddies completed 100% and finished exploiting then report to ensure no one else can exploit after. I don't see how this exempt kabam to do the right thing.

Ps. Unless you work for kabam you are only speculating as well you don't know what happened.

I was here when it was reported, acknowledged, and resolved. I don't need to work for them to be observant.
The right thing is up to their judgment, and in this case, they allowed people to keep the Rank Ups. Probably because it was on their end, and people weren't responsible for that. A handful of people Ranking newer Champs isn't going to throw the balance off. Everyone doing it will. Which is why they're limited to begin with.
It's unfortunate it happened, but it wasn't planned. They made a decision.

a handful of people ranking better champs throws off balance as they have an advantage other dont
if everyone did it then it would be perfectly balanced as it is a level playing field.

simple..

if everyone has the same thing these scales stay balanced no matter how good or bad that thing is.
the moment that some get something better the scales tip to one side creating imbalance.

Kabam has absolutely no idea of what is compensation or justice. They just do whatever is easier and/or more lucrative.

@MrMaat It wasnt a generic gem, class specific. People have been factually incorrect on this including one you tuber who put a generic in the thumbnail.

Reversing a rank up done with a bugged gem and giving the ranker a 2015 is not punishment. It's what everyone else is getting therefore fair.

Now, with most of the 2015 champs it might FEEL like a punishment... But that's a discussion for another day.

@CoatHang3r I think it’s pretty obvious he meant generic as in the ability to be used on anyone. Not specific. And to reiterate what others have said, taking something away they weren’t ever supposed to have, and replacing it with what they were supposed to have is not punishment. Not giving them a replacement gem would be punishment.
The undeniable fact is that in similar situations in the past, Kabam has actively punished people for such actions. For them to not just skip the punishment (which most don’t want anyway), but also skip the appropriate correction, goes strongly against the precedent they set.

Accurate? Mostly, i would’ve gone with “class specific rank up gem”. I just think it’s important to not misrepresent what’s happened. Thanks for correcting that. @MrMaat

@BirdReynolds It wasn’t obvious to me, and clearly there are others who actually thought (and likely still do) they were generic gems.

It would also be an undeniable fact that in the past Kabam has let people keep items that they recieved in error. Sentry comes to mind and there are others. So no there is not precedent, every instance of error is generally unique and must be weighed with both impact and culpability in mind.

@CoatHang3r I find that hard to believe. What I find even harder to believe is that so many players on the top of the food chain who can complete some of the hardest content we’ve seen, would be clueless as to the exact nature of the rewards.
There’s a few examples in this thread and through YouTube of those players receiving the gem, realizing it could be misused, and decided not to because they were aware of the precedent Kabam set with punishing exploits. So yes, there is precedent. Receiving items in error is different than knowingly exploiting a loophole. You’re the one grasping at straws here.

Sorry there is a mountain of evidence on these very forums where peope act, make decisions and forum posts before reading about what an item specifically does. Now i don’t dispute there are people who knew better and acted, they also acted on the item they recieved;is it unreasonable for them to assume the decription of the gem itself was the actual bug? However there are people who did not know then spent other items and made other decisions based on what they were able to do with the rewards recieved from the game.

Lol, guy. I shouldn’t have to hold your hand through this. The most recent is the units bug in beta. Nowhere did it explicitly state that you can’t do what they did. But they did it, and got punished severely (justifiably so). Here, it was explicitly stated that the gems were for 2015 champs only. And if you can’t make a reasonable assumption that end game players know what they’re spending large amounts of resources and possibly money to get, then you’re being willfully ignorant. That’s not a good space to argue from.

Killmonger Indestructible bug; Beneficial: Fixed in about a week.

Magik gaining Sp2 power from 0% opponents; beneficial: fixed in like a day or two

Medusa Living strands removing only a few fury and debuffs; beneficial: defensively she earned them item use/sales and took about a month

Archangel Neurotoxin stuns; beneficial: officially told as working as intended they reneged that stance and “fixed” the interaction

Drax: took 2 years and virtually ended up with people having wasted resources LONG after it was revealed to be a but but decided to keep it and later suddenly patched it

IMIW, defensively profitable: left for a month, allegedly fixed and then fixed again after the first one didn’t work.

Their track record sucks especially thanks to the DRAX one being heinous as they over fixed him out of paranoia. Yet they still allow AA and X23 to do what he does except with better heavy attacks.

The only time they’ve ever allowed long term beneficial “bugs” to last that long is in the odd case between Archangel and Drax. One of which is borderline wariyed resources afterwards and Archangel was made so OP anyways that they STILL haven’t “fixed” everything as his heavy still bypasses Mordo because unlike with Drax who relied on the niche of bypassing evades, Archangel is intrinsically OP by conception

Hi all, thanks for your passionate back and forth on this issue.

We thought it would be helpful to let you know that only a very small percentage of those players who could access the content ranked up non 2015 characters. Approximately ~0.008%.

While we appreciate the suggestions to roll those accounts back, it’s not something we will be moving forward with.

Rolling back ranked up Champions sounds straightforward, however, the reality is that Champion progression is incredibly complex. It very quickly becomes almost impossible to cleanly reverse and has the potential to cause even more challenges.

We know how important the competitive balance of The Contest is to all Summoners, ourselves included. Which is why the competitive modes rely more on breadth of roster and Alliance participation than any single Champion.

These decisions are difficult for us to make, especially when it may result in disappointment. We carefully consider the scale of the impact, the feedback we have received, and use all the technical resources at our disposal.

Again thank you very much for your passion and dedication to The Contest, we have many more great things in store in the coming months. Keep an eye out for our upcoming anniversary celebration!
