So.... The new champ is a guy with a skateboard.
Is Kabam so out of ideas, they are not trying?
Here is a few ideas for the future...
1. Chef with a frying pan
2. Office drone with a stapler and dry erase markers
3. Crossing guard with enchanted stop sign.
4. Coffee shop barista that throws hot coffee
5. A milkman that throws explosive bottles of milk
6. Pastepot Pete.
This new guy is disappointing. He looks like a Batman cosplayer who likes to skateboard.

He should have really used google before embarrassing himself.
He's still Poochie
Where did u get this from mate?
How this happens in the post Google world still astounds me.
It's from the Contest of Champions tie-in comic series from 2015/2016 written by the Amazing Al Ewing.
Yes and no. A lot of things factor into which champs Kabam adds to the game. Sometimes the champs that seem the most obvious in terms of popularity end up being not so interesting when their design gets whiteboarded and they simply don't mesh with what the game can do today plus what is on the roadmap to add in the immediate future. Often they are looking for champs that specifically work well with new abilities they are adding to the game engine, or champs that specifically integrate better into content tying into the ongoing story of the game.
Game development is a very parallel process with different people working on different things all at the same time. Things like new champions aren't thought up first and then the rest of the game bends around them. More likely new champions sit at the top of a large foundation of abilities, game mechanics, story and content additions, and whatever Marvel itself wants to do in terms of licensing. They are pegs that must fit into the holes of the rest of the game, and sometimes that dictates which champions come next.
And to be honest, sometimes the "obvious" champs are so obvious that no one wants to work on them. Content creators often want to work on things that are unobvious or novel, especially when they can place their own stamp on their creations. Sometimes that is very difficult for iconic characters. How many options do you really have when creating Wolverine, for example. Skateboard dude might have a lot more creative freedom by comparison when interpreting that character for a game.
I think he looks awesome. They both do and I enjoy seeing the new champs they bring in each month, it’s always exciting.
I'm a huge Marvel fan also. My favorite Marvel character is Batman.
What a joker!
I see your point and don't disagree. As others have stated (both here and in other threads) is that the game has ventured too far into obscurity and as a result have turned this into Marvel's Contest of C-List Champions.
And through the game design progression, players don't end up playing with their favorite characters, but rather some random champ that had a brief comic book series back in the early 90's and is unheard of outside the most loyal of reader circles.
I still have no idea who my top champ is in the comic world (Dr Voodoo) or how he fits into the larger universe (Avengers, Xmen, Spiderman, Fantasic 4, other?), but I use him because he has the best game utility of the champs I do have. In the process, well-known A-list champs like Captain America, Spiderman, and Wolverine remain unranked on the bench...
Thanks for the feedback, and some laughs! Remember, the Marvel Universe has thousands of different characters, and many of them have different meaning to different people.
Sometimes, we dig into the more obscure Characters, and they won't always resonate with everybody (I wish I could dig up the thread from when we introduced Hyperion and Howard...).
There are so many Summoners out there, and just because these Characters might not be ones that you desired, doesn't mean that somebody else isn't excited to finally get to play as a Character that they really like.
Additionally, the Battlerealm has an extensive history, and a growing future, and some characters are more important than others in the story of the Battlerealm. Night Thrasher, for instance, was transported to the Contest of Champions moments before his death at the event that set off the Marvel Civil War. The panels depicting this in the Contest of Champions Comic series are posted above.
I do know that Night Thrasher's main weakness is throwing a pebble under his skateboard wheel.
Because at the end of it, the "skin" of the champ becomes irrelevant and the only important aspect of a new champ is their utility or their rarity.
The new champ could be Professor X, but if everyone is given a 5* version and he has no useful utility then he's just another Kamala Kahn. How would Kabam profit from that?
Maybe if you’re not a true marvel fan. His design looks awesome. As well as Darkhawk’s. The time and effort they put into “skins” is well worth it. I use champs people find to be useless because I love the design of the champ both in the way they look and the way the champs fight (ex. Howard the Duck). Keep up the great work with champ creation kabam!
