Why even bother with this mail

The calendar is so outdated so why even bother sending a in-game mail about it. No one in the end game community cares about this. Not even the "bonus" is something to get excited about when you can get that much shards in less then a week... Just update the calendar already and reward the players that take the time to log in each day.

For mid tier players yes this calender is pretty good. But im talking about the people that are waiting for act 6 and have explored act 5 already. Pretty much everything in the calender is useless. What im I supposed to do with 1k Gold when certain rank ups go over 1 million in gold. The calendar should have been updated a long time ago but nothing happens.

It can, and the request for the calendar to be updated with better rewards is a very valid one, but that's really not the purpose of the Calendar. It's mainly an incentive to keep opening the app everyday with some extras, not to get end-game rewards just with a few touches of the screen to open and close the app everyday.

Otherwise we should all call this game "Marvel Contest of Logging In" instead.

It’s meant to entice otherwise less engaged players to have a reason to log in, thereby providing a boost to Kabam’s app in the form of active users. That’s actually more likely the reason why the items seem so useless to most veteran players.

It’s also a cost of doing business in apps these days. Quite a few offer some kind of bonus for recurring activity (hmm...why would game companies want people to have even more reason to play every day?).

The fact that I can see what's in the fridge is my reward for opening the door. As the fridge gets older, the light should get brighter to reward my continued loyalty to the brand.

I think you know that by using the term “cost of doing business” I didn’t suggest that there is literal cost to providing them. Rather, the point was that rewards for showing up are increasingly a standard part of the overall package for many phone games.

There’s a behavioral reason for log in rewards (likewise for several other game design decisions) that I also think you know. Calling it “engagement” is like calling a date night “intentional nocturnal physical proximity with a potential romantic interest”—I’m guessing the guys teaching Game Design 101 also pointed out that games need to make money, right?
