Introducing Back Issue #1: Ultron's Assault

Summoners!

Let’s take a trip way back in time! Back to a time where a maniacal machine was on the path to destroying the Battlerealm, but several courageous Champions and Summoners stopped his rampage!

Introducing, Back Issue #1: Ultron’s Assault!

As the Contest has grown and evolved, we’ve introduced many Event Quests, each with their own unique stories, and many that have expanded on the mythos of the Battle Realm and the Contest of Champions. We want to give Veteran Summoners a way to relive those moments, and to give Summoners that weren’t with us at the time a chance to experience the stories of the Contest that they had missed out on!

This Event Quest is available in TWO difficulties:

CLASSIC difficulty is a recreation of the original quest. While not completely 1:1, the layouts, difficulty, and dialogue are all the same as you remember. Take a stroll down memory lane and see how far you've come, or experience a quest you never got the chance to play!

VARIANT difficulty is a new spin on the quest, available for Summoners level 40 and up. This version features extreme challenge, new opponents, updated map layouts, and new combat effects for the boss fights. This quest will test even the mightiest of Summoners, so be prepared! You can find out more about the challenges you will face in Variant Difficulty in our latest Dev Diary post here: https://playcontestofchampions.com/dev-diary-added-difficulty/

Each Chapter of Variant Difficulty requires that you only bring Champions from 2 specific classes. These Quests will test not only your skills, but your knowledge of Champion’s abilities, immunities, resistances, and counters! Those who rely on only a few Champions will find the need to diversify, even outside of the Champion Requirements in place.

Remember Summoners, Variant Difficulty is going to be HARD! We’re stressing the use of a varied roster in this iteration. The good news is that Back Issues are permanent content, so if you’re not able to take Variant Difficulty on right now, take all the time you need and come back to it when you feel you are better equipped!

As the name suggests, this is our first iteration of our Back Issue Quests. Our goal is to periodically release more Event Quests for our Summoners to relive! Keep an eye out as we go back and explore more of the history of the Contest of Champions!

Why put up a list of champs that the gems will work on, then say that some of these champs will not be available? Makes zero sense.
  • Question about Vision.

    OG and Age of Ultron?

Champs that haven’t been available as 5* are starting to be rolled out (Electro, Doctor Strange, and Abomination). It is possible they might have plans to eventually add them all as 5*.

    Question about Vision.

    OG and Age of Ultron?

Age of Ultron Vision does not exist as a 5-star character, but both champions existed in 2015
  • Rewards look great, though I’m sure it’ll be well beyond my mostly 5/50 roster it’s something to work towards.

Nice rewards but not liking the 2015 champions

I mean, it's still an extra rank 3->4 gem, if you didn't notice the other one that'll work for all champs.

I just want to confirm and clarify that the 5-Star Rank 2 → 3 Gem Crystal x3 can be used on any Champion and do not have the 2015 Champion restriction on it. Can you please confirm?

Was not thinking this would give such good rewards. I'm liking it, and can't wait for tomorrow.

Also, the use of only 2 classes is somehow interesting. I like the idea of using specific classes and still be able to choose a champion from those classes, and trying to use a team where each champion as it's use, such as power control, rely of debuffs, rely on crits, etc. Being a permanent feature gives the summoner time to build up a better roster of champions too.

Nice addition. Hope to see more of these coming.
Can you give some info on their health and attack pool?

Yeah I know, neither did Doc Strange and Abomination before... but it does say both, I just missed it.

Either way, I read the fine print of "it doesnt mean the champs are coming" Just pure laziness.

I'm fully expecting this to be stupidly difficult, but this is a great way to give us more content.

How many paths and what about energy costs?

4 in total actually. Besides i bet we can find 3 awesome champs from 2015 worthy!

For the all the new content being added, on top of story mode, monthly event quests, special side events, etc, and since it was made clear in previous posts that you have no intention of increasing levels beyond 60, each mode of content should have separate energy (story, monthly EQ, back issues..) or lower costs of energy per move to 1 or 2 energy (max)...

players will have to buy LOADS (probably Kabam intended to make player spend) of energy refills to complete content esp with the energy recharge timer taking as long as it does now.. 70 energy doesn’t go far when last chapter of events take 3-4 energy per move..

    Its permanent, take your time.
