Keeping the game family friendly

I love marvel and love MCOC. One of the things that I’ve loved (and some of my friends) is that it’s something I can enjoy with my kids as well. For the most part anyway.

I’ve been playing for over 3 years now and My kids love to watch me play. They take their own turns at the gamers well. Makes me have to buy extra energy for them but I love that we can do it together.

However, recently some of the champions released in the game are are more and more mature. My 7 year old son says that symbiot suprem gives him nightmares. Along with a few of the level 3 animations of certain characters (like Hood).

I know some parents that won’t let their kids play the game because of some of the characters. I would really appreciate (and I know others would) if the characters remained a little more kid friendly. I know it’s not primarily a kid game. However the more that guys like myself can play the game with their kids, the better it will be for Kabam and us.

Same could go for keeping “real-life like” violence out of the game. When I first started everything was either physical attacks, or at least sci-fy/ fantasy style weapons. And then I was sort of disheartened to see WinterSoldier and Punisher using “life-like” guns (weapons in game before that did not resemble anything that people could actually get a hold of).

Now I know may other games out there feed into the “shooter” obsession among players, but this one (at least initially) had seemed to at least distance themselves from that genre. Sad that things changed for the “worse” with this game over the years.

Is is, after all (or supposed to be) SUPERHEROES. Why do superheroes need to use real guns ??

(..and to OP, that Venom SP3 I’m sure can be terrifying to some younger kids as well)

I'm really sorry to hear Symbiote Supreme scares your son-- we definitely don't intend for our characters to do so with anyone. We completely understand wanting to share these gaming experiences with your children, however, it is important to note that we have our game set for ages 12 and up. This rating can be seen prior to downloading the game via the App Store and Play Store. It's rated for not only the combat and dialogue, but also the characters that can be played within The Contest. We appreciate your feedback about this subject regardless and thank you for playing our game.

You can't expect the game to be changed because someone don't want their kids to be scared by it. The game has always been like this. Some champs have normal attacks no biggie others are scarier, like venom/sym supreme, but those were designed like that. You can't ask them to be changed cause you feel your kid don't like it. It is a game for those that can handle it. Besides isn't this game 7y plus or am I wrong? Might be me being wrong.

Thanks for your response Kabam Vydious. I totally understand that the game is for 12 and up. I’m in no way asking for everything to be changed for my 7 yr old. I’m just pointing out that the more family friendly it is, the more myself and other family men will appreciate.

For better or worse, I think most gamers are middle age family men lol. So I think it can benifit the game as a whole to ‘more’ family friendly it is. Not saying at all that it should be made for 5yr olds :)

I was actually expecting you to request a more relaxed game. Managing a family or doing a job takes a lot of time and some people can only play one hour a day. But with all these time-based events, this is getting harder. It is hard to progress in this game if you don't grind arena's, complete the monthly quests in one or two difficulties, doing daily/hourly events like bounty missions and then there are story quests as well. The game seems to be catering towards the mommy's basement-dwelling, unemployed bored people.

This is for me a bigger concern than scary characters (yeah, sorry about your son, but it is 12+... Try to avoid letting him play such characters).

You’re almost making my point for me, look at all those Skill champs that don’t rely on guns, and I’d toss Hawkeye and Elektra in there as well. After all, what is actually skillful about shooting a gun (marksmanship ?)

Point was that up until I started seeing WS and Punisher in game, I don't think any of the other heroes at the time had been using weapons such as those (that was 2015, although I could be wrong about any others, those 2 were just what stood out in my mind at the time, saying “really ??? everything else in this new game seems very appropriately designed)

Punisher and Winter Soldier not using guns is akin to Captain America not using his shield, Hawkeye not using his bow and arrows, etc. It is who they are in the comics which is partly used as source material for this game. This game is rated 12+ and should stay that way. No one is required to play the game or play it with their kids. My daughter plays it sometimes and she is 7. And guess what, I use it as a learning tool to discuss the real world implications of violence vs. animated video game violence. As a parent, you can avoid the game with your kids or use it as a teaching experience, but in no way should the game developers alter their content to satisfy those outside of their market demographic.

It's typically not pre-12 year olds going about in a crazed unfeeling casual state about guns and committing all sorts of horrendous acts out there. But I realize there is absolutely no desire in society anymore to try and limit the exposure to things that end up desensitizing teenagers to take such a casual “isn't that fun to...” attitude that we seem to live in nowadays. Just sad to say.

I think again that this falls back on the parents to have these conversations with their kids, starting at a young age. Never in the history of mankind have we been able to control what the rest of the world says and does, but you can build that foundation at home. This is a fighting game. Just the fact that there is "fighting" in the game type leads it to have some level of violence. There are plenty of other games out there that do not have any violence. Puzzle games, endless runner games, etc.

Parents have become so disconnected from teaching their kids right and wrong from an early age and always want to look at outside sources to blame.

"I won't be able to change and eliminate all the evil and dangers in this world, but I am definitely going to give my kid the wisdom to identify it and defend against it."
